IROG'S PROFILE

Hi all !

I like 16-bits RPGs (especially action RPGs) where you feel the quest behind the lines of code. I also like strategy, puzzle solving, immersive stories, tabletop RPG and LARP.

I'm a hobbyist C programmer who likes to work on custom game mechanics. My very first project was a very basic map generator for Genesia, aka Ultimate Domain https://rpgmaker.net/users/Irog/locker/UltimateDomainWorld.zip

I also want to help developers polishing their projects with my player feedback. So I'll be happy to test your game !

See you around,

Just Do It! - Anti-Procrastination Initiative

I'm done with goal 7!

The crossbowmen shoot deadly quarrels that inflict 3 damages at range 3 and 4 damages at range 2. Compared to the 1 damage per attack or 2 damages per charge attack of other units, the crossbow is very powerful but it requires a long time to load. You'll need good some strategy to take full advantage of the crossbowmen in your ranks!

On the above screen-shot the crossbowman in the fortified village is about to load his weapon. The three crossbowmen on the left have theirs crossbows ready to shoot.

Unfortunately, the AI needs additional work to be able to use the crossbowmen. Here is a build where human players can use the crossbowmen.

As there is only a few days left in the event, I'll set a reasonable goal to end with: review an unreviewed game. And don't worry, I'll get back to MinST right after it.

Valor Emblem

Tanks! Developments on MinST are currently focused on making interesting balanced mechanics. And It is very far from any completed state. The download always includes the latest developments, so feel free to check it. Any feedback, especially on mechanics and balance, is always appreciated.

Oxtongue Heroes

I've played and reviewed your game!

Valor Emblem

You've posted some very appealing screenshots in the anti-procrastination event and they led me here. I love strategy games... <Subscribed!>

Goal 6 done: Add the bill-men unit and build some maps using the bill-men.

A bill-men attacks at range 2 but, unlike the archer, he can't attack behind an obstacle. On the other hand, he can charge the enemy. He is the unit of choice for your second line and provides excellent support when your formation charges the enemy.

Next goal: Add the crossbow-men, develop a weapon reloading functionality and build some maps using the crossbow-men.

LoTL Demo finally available.

The most discouraging part in learning code is the beginning where you learn the basics but see no practical application of it. When you covered all the basics, you see all the possibilities opening. So persevere!

Actually, your characters portraits have a nice Fire Emblem style. And some people suggested FE mechanics to improve my project.

Account Mu Review

I'm glad my review lifted your spirits and can help you improve your game. Yours helped me with MinST. If you want to make steady progress on ยต, you can join the Anti-Procrastination Initiative. I find it very efficient!

Goal 5 is done: Adapt AI to properly use attacks of ranges above 2

The AI is now controlling archers with a 2-4 range. This opens new strategic options to the players. I've updated the main download.

Next goal: Add the bill-men unit (draw new sprite) with range 2 and build some maps using the bill-men

LoTL Demo finally available.

When you'll start programming, begin with textbook exercises then try small size projects. Expend your knowledge step by step and keep improving your skills at using the new knowledge. I always recommend the "start small then grow" approach.

Many people dream of large game project and get demotivated by looking at what's left to be done. Instead, look at what you've accomplished!

If I had planned a FireEmblem-like game I would have dropped it long ago. Now I have a very small game and feel great every time I improve it. Of course, the drawback is the poor sens of direction of the project... but that's part of the adventure.

Your team work experience is very valuable: you know what caused the troubles you went through. But you may have seen only the downside of team work. So you should talk to successful teams, and share experience with them to know what made them succeed.
