HARBINGER'S PROFILE

Status: Currently working on an RPGMaker game since April 2015. Currently learning GameMaker as well.

Gamer, Wrestling fan, green belt and rookie game developer.

I have 2 great stories I have been working on for years, so I hope to one day make a game about them meanwhile I have created a world with it's lore, history, etc. for these 2 stories, so I hope to base my games around this world and improve over time until im ready to create my 2 stories.

A little about me. I love Fantasy RPG's like Dragon Quest. My favorite game of all time is Fallout 3, second favorite is Mass Effect 2 and third is Kingdom hearts 2.
I have been gaming since I was 4-5. Im from Puerto Rico, im 19 and I was tempted to say "Yes" when I was asked if I was a bot just to see what would happen... :/

[Poll] What is the best kind of villain/antagonist?

There are usually 2 big type of villains, the villain you hate and the villain you think is a complete bada$$/villain you love.

Villains that are usually really awesome, that just look bada$$ like Sephiroth from FF7, Cell from DBZ or Darth Vader, as evil as they are you just can't ever trully hate them, bacause they are so good at being evil and just happen to be bada$$e$!

And then there are villains that you just want to take down and want nothing more than to kick their a$$!! They are sleazy or annoying or do very evil things that just anger you and rub you the wrong way. Like that Sugou from SAO or the Celestial Dragons from One Piece(I can't think of any videogame one for some reason XD) Usually very cowardly villains that always insult you and manage to always get away with their evil deeds are good at this.

What do you think is the better kind of villain?

What do you love/hate seeing in a game?

Like:- Finding hidden goodies that are well hidden to value exploration
- Male main character controlled by me while all other characters are girls with huge tits
- Fast paced gameplay (Not spending hours in the same city for example, quickly moving from one scene to the next)
- Bosses that are challenging and BECOME PART OF THE TEAM after being defeated
- Character with UNIQUE personality traits, specially the ability to BANTER

Dislike:
- I absolutely hate UNSKIPABLE CUTSCENES that shows SLOW OR UNRELEVANT content or piece of story which I absolutely don't care about.

- NPCs that think that you have all day to talk to them, and also just give you completly out of sync information

- Slow menus, when you press ESC and you have to wait for fading in/out effects to occur, in order to do anything...

That's pretty much it... :)
But I don't think I will be adding much value to the topic anyways :(

Agreed!

And I love a game where an enemy becomes an ally. I really love that! Like sometimes when you have a cool badass villain, it would be cool for him/her to actually join you at some point. Instead of just dying and you moving on to another new villain. This time he/her will help you overcome a greater evil. Even better if the villain remains a villain and only alligns with you because it is best for both parties. Helps add to character development.

Dislike: When a villain is pointless, like he has had no meaningful moments. Sometimes the Hero is only as interesting as the villain he overcomes.

PS: Sorry if I necro'd this, I would have commented sooner, but my pc was getting fixed for a few weeks.

Azenite: Worlds Collide

Wow that sucks, I almost lost all progress on a game im making because my laptop needed fixing. So that must be aweful.

Azenite: Worlds Collide

Dang...cancelled.
What happened?

Happy Birthday

I really enjoyed this game. It was short, but it was sweet. Really good job on it, the ending was very interesting. I hope to see more games like this.

So far it involves a Fortune Seeker(Like a Treasure hunter, bounty hunter, monster hunter, mercenary etc.) He is just a laidback, average Fortune Seeker, he does his jobs, gets paid and done, he usually wastes his money on getting drunk, etc. He usually doesn't try to be a hero or anything, but he's not a bad guy. At some point he get's involved in something bigger and get's hired to track down a dangerous man(this can all change though). So far what I got...
To help get you started, here are some questions to think about to help define your story.

- Why does he spend so much money on getting drunk? What's the story behind that? Does he just drink for fun? If so, how can you make that interesting?
- Why is our average laidback fortune seeker the guy they hire to chase the dangerous man? Does he have a connection to him? Does the client have a relationship to the protag? Does the client owe somebody a favor?
- What is so important about this fortune seeker? He seems rather unremarkable; you say he's average, he gets the job done, not a bad guy. Why do we care about him? What exactly about chasing this man is significant in his life and why are we going to be invested in his journey?

Those are some good questions and I do have them mostly answered so far.

What's the specific idea then?

I find that a lot of my best ideas come from addressing places where I get stuck in planning by asking "what's the most obvious thing to happen?" Or the most obvious explanation behind elements which have already been set in stone. I find this tends to be more fruitful than thinking about what would be interesting. There's always an unlimited number of interesting ideas, but most of them won't mesh naturally with a particular story. If you have an interesting set of premises, the conclusion that follows naturally from them should be interesting as well.

Right now im trying to do something different, usually in my other stories I have 2 protagonist a guy and girl, there's good action, great villains and some romantic interest between the characters. This story will have 1 protagonist, no romantic interest and I can't think of anything for the villains. Basically im trying to do something different.

What do you know about your story so far? Does it have one protagonist and no romantic interest because your other stories have multiple protagonists and a romantic interest, and you wanted to do something that was different from that, or does it have one protagonist and no romantic interest because you have some specific idea which entails this setup?

I think before you nail down specifics of what you will or won't have in a game, it's important to have an idea of what you're trying to achieve with it, and why those elements should or shouldn't be part of it.

It's because I have a specific idea.
