Just found out that Colin Johanson of Arenanet is going to be giving a speech about the making of community focused games.

Yes, Ace does have a lot of scripting potential. However, what troubles me is that the mecha game may require me to make layered sprites. It's okay to have handheld weapons not showing in battle when not attacking, but back mounted weapons are going to be trouble. I'll need to set up points of connection in the sprites so the game knows where to draw the weapon relative to the main body. I guess I could make all the mechs the exact same size and move in the exact same way and do something like Victor's Visual Equips script but for battlers. I'd like to have some size variation in the mechs, but that seems impossible right now.

Stuff
There's always the Scott Pilgrim game...
And you building a battle system from scratch has actually interested me. I'm actually curious to see what you'll end up doing with it. Probably because I can see myself having to do the same in the future eventually. Most of my possible RPG projects seem possible to do well in an RPG Maker engine, but the mecha game might require some scratch built stuff.

So a book fell on top of my model kits and knocked them over. After removing the offending object from the area and cleaning up the mess, I took my recently assembled display base and used it to arrange things into a fight scene. Now every time I enter my room, I have to stpo for a few seconds to look at it and admire it. I think I may be a bit too proud of my work.
Anyway, here it is in all its glory.

Wish I was good at pokemon.
I love it so much but I can't battle competitively for shizzle T.T
Thanks for reminding me of how rusty I am. I used to be quite decent back in the day. Maybe I should try getting back to it. I want to be in shape when October comes.
Favorite RPG story and why?
Adobe is giving away Creative Suite CS2 Standard (PC or Mac Digital Download) Free!
You still talkin' about this?
I don't buy it. The people at Adobe are too smart to do something like this by accident. Everything went according to plan.
Think about it. Adobe's products are priced at ludicrous values, yet are pathetically easy to crack. You'd think such valuable software would be better protected.
I think they only put copy protection on their software for legal reasons. They actually want it to be pirated. Photoshop is so well known that it is used as a verb for the act of digitally altering an image. Most graphics workers will want to use Photoshop, and they will pirate it, and use it a lot, learning everything about it.
The result? You have a huge ammount of people entering the workforce who know Photoshop inside and out, and have spent years using it and nothing else. And so, the companies that hire them get legit Adobe licences, at their ridiculous prices, for their employees to use the tools legally.
An individual can pirate whatever software he wants with impunity, but companies do not have that freedom. Adobe knows piracy is impossible to stop, and has actually integrated it in their business plan. By indirectly training the workforce in their products, they are forcing the employers' hands.
I thought this was common knowledge.

Game Programming: Which Languages do you prefer?
From the few programming languages I've used, Java is my favorite so far, though I know that my opinion may change in the future. I'm going to learn Ruby as soon as I have more free time, for reasons that should be pretty fucking obvious here of all places, and that may become my new favorite. May also go teach myself Javascript later on.
By the way...
Heh. My experiences with C++ aren't too happy either. It seems like C and Java got drunk in Vegas one night and C++ was the result. But even so, almost every game studio seems to use C++. If it's so "miserable", why is it so popular?

C++ is absolutely miserable for making games.

Pokemon Battle Flo Sequel (anyone can help, you don't even have to be able to make games)
Are you actually going to make it a battle this time, with damage and the likes, or is it going to be a series of questions again?
