Why didn’t I make a note to myself about what any of these past 500 Switches do!? Now I’m lost…

Well, I guess if there was a better time to use the Insert Comment feature from now on - now’s a good time to use it! I seriously don’t remember what half of these god damn switches do. The variables, yes, but the switches I don’t.

This could take a while… Hopefully I don’t f**k anything up in the process.

*sigh* ...Monopolo, why are you so frustrating to work on??? The original seemed like a total breeze compared to this new age shit. Everything’s so much more complicated now that I just wanna punch out somebody!!! Luckily, I don’t have too much more to go…annnnd I’m about a month or two away from having a gamepage again, first time in almost five years, so that's good... But seriously, after this - I don’t work on a 4 player game ever again, especially using 2k3 to make it. A 2 player game is fine, but no more 4 players…at least, for a little while.

Wooooot! We're getting Monopolo soon :D

Oops, sorry to overlook your troubles. I comment often, but there's still bits and pieces that I forget how it works. What I do is save a backup, and if I screw it up, I just revert back to that one. Keeping multiple copies when you're altering content is a great safety net, especially stuff like common events that can just screw up everything by accidentally pressing ENTER or OK when you put in some experimental code that doesn't work.

Also, you can just Ctrl+C Ctrl+V maps, common events, and other things as backups before doing critical work. You probably already know this, but for everyone else who reads... if you ain't sure, back it up! ;)

I do backup all my files and stuff usually every 2 weeks or so, but sometimes I let it slip my mind and wait even more than that. One time I waited almost three whole months before backing up anything; it was a godsend that nothing horrible happened during that time. But if I have to alter something that’s in the Common Events section and I’m not sure if it’s gonna work or not, I’ll make two copies of it, stick the original one that works at the bottom and make it a call event and then fiddle around with the new one in its original existing place.

Maybe a good night sleep will help me figure out what most of these blasted switches do. I’m sure I’ll figure it out somehow. :)

Yeah, sounds like you got it. Maybe if you just spend time flicking the switches that you don't know one by one, you can figure out what each one does. I dunno, it may be harder for something huge like this.

Edit: On the other hand, nothing substitutes the hard slog. Rest tonight and then work swell, young lad ;)
XD
It took me a few games to learn to tag my switches and have different sections for groups of them. For example 100-200 would be Treasure switches, 201-250 were for skills, #1 was a random, reusable switch (coinciding with #1 variable being random/reusable variable) and switches 10-99 being story ones (I could never get the hang of using variables for story progression).

In some ways, switches are better for story progression because then you can experience them non-linearly.

I...don't seem to have this problem. Switches I use for chests are named chest 1, chest 2, etc. Or items found on the field are named and numbered the same way. Unique switches get named after their scenes...and numbered.

Yes, I use numbers on functions that already have numbers. Sue me.

Well, I figured it all out last night without screwing anything up. Everything works the way that it should be and that makes me one happy camper.

Luckily, most of those 500 switches / variables really don’t effect too much of the main game itself and are often turned off automatically after their initial process’ are done or it completely resets itself from a previous event. I did add some comments in for what some of those switches / variables that aren’t completely obvious to me do and break everything down into four different sections so I know exactly what to do when the time comes, such as when the players save their data, has a rematch using pre-existing settings or returns to the main menu or just quits the program altogether.

It exactly wasn’t as bad I thought; took around 3 hours or so to get it all done! Maybe I was just a bit tired that night and just took a look at everything initially and just went like, “Fffffff - f**k this!” But I’m glad that everything is back on track again. (Was getting a little worried there for a second.)
