NHL 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs / Pool Prediction Thread ~ Kentona's Redemption ~

I can’t believe it - THEY DIDN'T CHOKE... THEY. DIDN’T. CHOKE! IT'S A MIRACLE!!!
Despite this though, I still have an awfully...AWWWFULLY steep hill to climb if I ever want to get even the chance of sniffing that second championship in a row... But then I remember last year that I was down by a ton and did TERRIBLE the first round and then everything started to change when Dallas, my last year’s Stanley Cup Pick, went on a bit of a roll and I ended up eventually winning the whole thing. I mean...Colorado isn't going to be as easy as the Wild, but...maybe it can happen again???
Also, apparently, the stupid NHL schedule makers have decided that the 2nd Round will be starting today (Really? We're not going to at least wait for the Maple Leafs and the Canadiens to finish their series first?) with the Islanders playing the Bruins.
I know we still gotta find out whether the Maple Leafs or the Canadiens will play the Jets in the next round, but if you guys wanna make your 2nd Round selections at this time - then it's fine by me! I'll probably wait until the Maple Leafs and Canadiens series comes to a close first before I make my 2nd Round predictions.
- Or, I could always just copy whatever Kentona does and just do that. Buttttt...then I wouldn't be able to gain any ground on him in the standings, so...damn it.

Playoff Update:
The Minnesota Wild’s amazing comeback finally came to an end last night as they couldn’t stave off a 3rd Period surge by the Vegas Golden Knights as they win the series in Game 7 and will now play the Colorado Avalanche in the next round starting on Sunday.
Everybody picked the Golden Knights in this one and all earn themselves 2 Points in the standings. Addit, because the Golden Knights are his Stanley Cup Pick, earns double the points for four!
Not much in the overall standings have changed much after this game, as Kentona still has a 10 Point lead over Kory_Toombs and UPRC for second (who, still, cannot break that deadlock!). However, the extra points now only puts Addit back by 2 for second overall in the standings - so he’s not completely out of it just yet!
- The Bracket, Leaderboard and Thread have now all been updated!

Toronto was supposed to win in 5 though!!
Yes - they’re SUPPPPPOSE to win...but the Leaf fans have to suffer some more PTSD before they happen to take in a Game 7. That way it will make things a LOTTTTTT more interesting and make the league some more money! I have no doubt that Toronto will take it either way by Saturday or Monday. And if they don't - WE CAN ALL LAUGH AT THEM SOME MORE!!!
- And speaking of laughter: if the Golden Knights don't happen to win tonight and blow a 3-1 series to the Wild, I'M GOING TO BE LAUGHING TOO!!!

Playoff Update:
Last night, the Carolina Hurricanes punched their ticket into the second round by defeating those pesky Nashville Predators in 6 Games. They will now play the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning, in Round Two.
Kentona’s perfect streak of four straight FINALLY comes to an end, as he only manages to get the 2 Points this time around. But because the Hurricanes are his Stanley Cup Pick - those points are then doubled to 4 Points total! So, in some small way, the streak of getting constant 4 point results continue!
Meanwhile, Kory_Toombs and UPRC also receive 2 Points for picking the Hurricanes as well. And Addit doesn’t come away completely empty-handed as he manages to savage himself A Single Point for predicting that the series would go to six.
With two more series left to go in the First Round before the Second Round commences, Kentona’s lead over the competition now extends to 10 while Kory_Toombs and UPRC are still deadlocked with each other in second place.

Geez, louise, I expected Kentona to do well this year but…lol - NOT THIS WELL!!! He’s got four perfect thus far and only one wrong; at this rate he’ll destroy everybody before the second round even begins, lol!
That’s why the next few days is going to determine a LOOTTTT of things:
If Toronto can win tonight against Montreal and close out the series, Kory can pick up 8 Points and give himself a chance to dethrone Kentona for first place as he’ll only be down by 4 points in the standings. A Toronto win also puts me more in the hole than I already am. (Great...)
Of course, a Carolina win of any type would strengthen Kentona’s gargantuan lead and put him in pretty good shape going forward.
UPRC still has Colorado in the next round, so there’s still a chance that he could come back.
As for me, I think my whole pool basically rides on whether Vegas doesn’t choke against the Wild on Friday and blow a 3-1 series lead or not. If they do - I basically have no chance.

Playoff Update:
In one of two series clinching games last night, the New York Islanders scored three unanswered goals to win the game and take out the Pittsburgh Penguins in 6 Games as they defeat the Penguins - once again - for the second time in three years. They will now play the Boston Bruins in Round Two.
Kentona is the only one who managed to pick the Islanders in this series – and the correct number of games too, once again – to earn himself another 4 Points in the standings. Addit manages to salvage A Single Point for predicting that the series would go six.
And in the other series clinching game, the Tampa Bay Lightning continue to defend their last year’s Stanley Cup title by taking out the Florida Panthers on home ice in 6 Games as the Spencer Knight shows, abruptly, comes to an end for the Panthers.
Three participants, amazingly, managed to score a perfect four as Kentona, Kory_Toombs and UPRC all pick up 4 Points in the standings for voting for the Lightning in six. Addit doesn’t come away empty handed either as he also earns himself 2 Points for picking the Lightning.
With now a 4-1 record in the playoffs thus far - and now a fourth straight perfect - Kentona’s lead over Kory_Toombs and UPRC has now doubled to 8 while Addit continues to lag behind the rest with a messily 5 points, now 11 points back of the lead.

Playoff Update:
The Winnipeg Jets, after a gruelling triple-overtime finish, finish off the Edmonton Oilers in a stunner as they prove all of the pundits wrong and defeat them in a 4 Game Sweep: the first in modern Jets history!
Unfortunately though, nobody picked the Jets in this one and nobody was even close in regards to the series being a sweep, so nobody gets any points this time around.
And thus, with the Oilers loss, the last two participants, Kentona and Kory_Toombs, FINALLY managed to get a blemish on their perfect records up to this point, and the Brackcellent Award goes unclaimed for yet another year...

Well...on the plus side of things - at least you're a perfect 2-0 in the pool thus far and currently in the lead! (...For now.) So that's something! And, you never know, the Oilers could always come back from the hole that they dug themselves into and win the whole thing. (...Not bloody likely, but who knows!)
And I'm hoping that the Golden Knights can wrap up their series tonight against those pesky Wild and give me those precious 8 Points as that will rocket me back into a tie with Kentona for first! Regardless of whether the Lightning and the Jets win tonight, it won't change anything in the standings as we all either get 2 Points for the Lightning winning or nothing for the Jets winning. So, go Vegas go!!!
