Let's mow this lawn!

Hello players!
this time the game I played was Death Girl Mows the Lawn, a short interactive visual novel adventure made with RPG Maker XP for My First Game Jam: Winter 2017 by dinky-dau.

This game is about a girl, F.G, that a month after the passing of her sister is still grieving but her dad asks to... you can guess that... mow the lawn.
So we start the game heading for the shack where our girl decides to dress as a popular magical girl called Death Girl. Or, better, she apparently transforms into Death Girl before heading out to mow that lawn.

Of course, being this a visual novel, there are no monsters, puzzles nor battles, we'll just have to mown the lawn, anyway during this short adventure F.G will have the opportunity to make some interactions like talking about important matters with her dad, anyway it's your choice, and trust me, despite some available choices there seems not to be any difference and in the end the epilogue is just one. No, I'm not going to spoil that, so play and see if you're curoius!

Well, you do not see a Death Girl everyday!

Now, the gameplay is what you can expect from a linear adventure, just go around and interact, there are dialogues and cutscenes but that's it, despite the presence of Hp/Sp and a special skill there isn't anything else, so just go around, interact and make your choices.

Visually the game is mostly made with RPG Maker XP RTPs and mapping is pretty bad for the most part, in the sense that maps are overly large, often empty and for some reason doors do not exist. Anyway there are also some custom made assets like the sprites of the protagonists, that do not fit very well with the RTP setting and other peasants, creating a certain dissonance of style (not to mention that F.G looks pretty masculine, but ok).
Music and sounds are RTPs too but are also sometimes absent, I mean that some more background music would have made the game more inviting. To be honest the custom made menu screen is good and I also liked how writing improves after the first part.

Final Verdict
Ok, this was everything, what else can I say about this game? When I started playing Girl Mows the Lawn I wasn't expecting a short and sad mature story, but it's exactly what I got. As a game it's pretty mediocre in its realization (it's probably the first game made by the developer) but the concept was instead pretty interesting. Anyway, as usual no rating for a 10-minutes diversion, try it if you're curious but do not expect much more than what I told you here!
