̶S̶e̶n̶d̶ ̶m̶e̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶a̶n̶g̶e̶l̶ ... an angel sent me somewhere!

Hello adventurers!
Resonate ~call out my angel~ is a visually interesting short game created for the IGMC 2015 by JosephSeraph, author of other visually interesting and short games such as Provolone.

Anyway this Resonate ~call out my angel~ is a stand alone story, the adventure of a girl that's crying on the bed inside he little apartment with no desire to go to work the morning after. Ok, that's a wish I had too, in any case for our girl, named Bell, falls asleep and then is visited by an angel that enter from the window that sprinkles some magic angel dust over her... and her wish becomes true!
Yes.
She wakes up in a strange meadow somewhere! Oh she should have been ore precise with her wish, for example asking to wake up on vacation to the beach. Anyway she decides to find her way home, and after learning from a voice (!) that she has to heal a magical tree to go home, she gets up and heads north. She then runs into two mysterious fellow, a brash kid named Agni and Monche, a sort of humanoid dog.
From the two she learns that to heal The Tree she has to go to speak with Anne at her shop, and they join her in this adventure.

Our three heroes exploring the world. See that flame? That's an enemy! Well one or more!

The story is pretty simple: Bell and her new friends have to find three parts of the Miracle Water that can salve The Tree, and these are found inside three different dungeons where also hostile creatures can be found. And luckily JosephSeraph chose to use wandering enemies instead of the annoying infinite random encounters. Well done, but remembere that there will be also some mandatory boss battles! The plot and the adventure is all here, there is no Dark Evil Lord nor Bell is the predestined heroine, she just wants to go home and that's what this adventure is about. And for a short game, it works perfectly! It's also true that besides the party members there are other characters like Anne inside the Magic Kingdom, and the question is: are there other persons lost like Bell or are they all native of the place? I guess we'll never know but for an event game we've a complete short story and that's enough for me!

Battles are turn based and start easy, but later become more complex since you will find spell cards that can be equipped and let characters use special abilities. Yes! There aren't earned levelling up but looted and each character has six slots to equip them. One of the most important skills is the Healing Spell that just costs 1 MP, and since there are no inns nor healing points it's indispensable to progress. By the way there is a lot of gear and spell cards that can be found and equipped, I liked this!

Visually the game is gorgeous: the water color styled sprites looks like they came out from Secret of Mana or Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross, so expect a similarly pretty game even if animations aren't as smooth as in that game, but come one this is RPG Maker VX Ace, and I am pretty sure you won't find many other games with this kind of art style and cute cutscenes (there are some minor mapping flaws, but hey they're really minimal!). Music is also good and I cannot retrace the source so it surely isn't RTP or classic Final Fantasy themes often (over)used in rpgmaker games.

Agni attacks... and kills! Well done, my friend!

Final Verdict
Resonate ~call out my angel~ isn't just a really pretty and colorful game, but also an enjoyable one even if at the end it left me wishing for more... more story and details about what happened, but uhm ok this is the only problem I really had, so this can be clearly considered a GOOD game. It's short and linear but charming and shows the good job made by the deloper to offer something that's not the usual banal party-based rpg adventure, thanks to the custom system and the original graphics. What else? A short and good event game, that's a solid 4/5!
