New Game!

I wanted to let everyone know that a new game with many of the same characters as Rescue at Moranthia has been released: At Last Alone: Risen

It's been a few years since I released Rescue at Moranthia and, since then, I have been working on a true, full follow-up to the story. But when the IGMC competition opened up last month, I took the opportunity to make the tactical JRPG I'd always wanted to make. And, hence, Risen was born! I feel fortunate that the skills I've built up in the last couple years working on the full follow-up provided me with the ability to put together a complete side-story for Cal, Georgie, and Gary in a short month's time.

If you subscribed to Rescue at Moranthia, I hope you give Risen a try!

Reviews!

With all the IGMC games coming out, there are a few people who have offered to do reviews for people - which is incredibly gracious!
Granted, ALA isn't a competition game, but I asked a few people to take it a look since the game only got one (good!) review upon release back in December/January.

On this here site, Addit did a great, humorous review of the game and included some new screenshots. You can check it out by clicking the link above or by going to: here!

On a separate blog, JTrev23 wrote up a really nice review of the game, even though he's currently concentrating on IGMC games. No new screenshots there, but he did specifically call attention to the music - which I'm really happy about because I spent a LONG time choosing music for the game. (Some people may not notice it, which is saying something on its own since some of the best scores are ones you never notice because they're so seamless with the atmosphere.) You can check out his review: here!

One item that both reviews mention is interest in a sequel. So let me state it first here: CAL WILL RETURN!

I am currently working on a sequel that takes place 4 years after Rescue at Moranthia. Following the events of that game, the Shatter Team has been disbanded and ultimately blamed for the human-combustion nightmare of the rescue attempt. Disgraced and in self-imposed exile, Cal has stepped away from conflict. But when a bloodied young man seeks her help to investigate the murder of an entire village, Cal and Georgie are called back into action!

The game features completely new non-RTP mapping, lots of new character sprites, a side-battle system, not too many abilities, some original music, and a much more epic scale that includes multiple towns and even a few side-quests.

I'll be starting a new page in a few months and uploading screenshots there. But if you were a fan of this game and wanted more, stay tuned!

First Review is IN: 3/4 "Fun"s!

I want to publically thank Watermark RPG for putting together a review for At Last Alone last week! You can check it out here:

Review! (external site)

I've never been shy about how this is my first game and there may be some gameplay/story missteps that I'll look back on and cringe. So, with that in mind, I think this is a really even-handed review. And I love the custom infographic he/she made for it!

3/4 Funs!!!

(BTW, it looks like this is Watermark's first review. So I can only hope that they review more indie RPGs from here and other sites. Also, I can see how the more jaded among you may think that I made a new facebook account and webpage just to review my own game; that is not the case. If it was the case, it would be 4/4 Funs. ;) )

Progress Report

Over 150 downloads! And getting better all the time!

Again, I want to thank all the people who have downloaded my game and given it a shot! There have been some really great comments and ideas to improve the game.
If you downloaded it early, I almost want to apologize to you, since I've added some lines and scenes to clarify narrative holes, cut down on the abilities, made the boss tougher, fixed some mapping issues, and overhauled the bust conversation system (which was giving me some serious problems, the cause of which I'm still not sure about).
I've heard some great feedback on the music, characters, and timed button battle system - and there's been a really positive reaction to the world in general and the overall story. I'm currently working on story for the next chapter and I hope to get it out in the summer.

Game Design

Things are kinda fixed!

I want to thank all the cool early-downloaders who have pointed out improvements in the comments.

When I was making this game, I spent a lot of time lurking on various boards looking for eventing and scripting solutions. But sometimes, after someone would ask a question, they would come back and say, "Nevermind! I fixed it!" and I'd scream "But how?! I have the same problem and I HAVEN'T fixed it!"

So, to potentially help future googlers, here are a few things I learned:
1) When a cutscene event is making an invisible wall, put in "erase event".
2) There's a script that can make chasing enemies attack your followers.
3) There's a script that can fix the yanfly chase script where the ! balloon still exists even after you kill the guy.

Now available for download!

I'm really excited to announce that At Last Alone: Rescue at Moranthia is finally available for download!!

The download link assumes that you have the VXA RTP. If you need a link for a download with the RTP, message me and I can hook you up.

I can't thank Linkis enough for beta testing an early version of the game and identifying some major issues!

If there are any questions, drop them in the comments and I'll try to help you out. If you have suggestions, drop those in the comments too! Since this is my first game ever, I'm sure I didn't get everything right.

Miscellaneous

It's a buzzing game!!

I woke up this morning to see that At Last Alone has made it into the buzzing game list!

I don't know how or why that happens, or if a bot decides that, or if it's an actual human that puts things there...

But this is a dream come true! Facebook post made! Screen captured! Printout going on the fridge!

Request

Beta is done!

So I've been laboring away for a few months now and it wasn't until today that I felt like it was real enough to actually submit a game page - and here it is!

So for anyone who drops by this page, THANKS!

The game is currently in beta and needs testers. So if you can get past the tongue-twister names and a concept borrowed from Super Mario Bros (I PROMISE the princess is not in another castle. I really didn't realize this parallel until a friend pointed it out. SMH.), please PM me and I can send you a link to download it.

Any edits or bugs you catch would help me a lot!
