I'm Rebyūyasha! And I offer you this review!

Hello readers!
It's strange, I've seen many rpgmaker fangames dedicated to Dragonball, some to Naruto and even one to Sailor Moon, that I reviewed last week, but no Inuyasha? Weird that's such a popular manga (shōnen written and illustrated by Rumiko Takahashi), and anime... well this was until today! When I realized of the existance of this game, Inuyasha TAMASHI! Here I come!

But before that I begin a word of warning! The old link to the game here on mediafire and the old google site NO LONGER WORK! Anyway I was still able to play and enjoy this game: just download the game from Gamejolt CLICKING HERE, or if you prefer, using the new mediafire link CLICKING HERE

Inuyasha ~TAMASHI~ is a RPG Maker XP fangame made and released in 2010, even if its last version (1.2) was released 9 years ago, and it's still a lot of time isn't it? Anyway it's still a complete game that has two endings.

Since this is a fangame expect to meet many characters of the manga! A couple will also join Inuyasha in his adventures, of course!

This adventure focuses on the relationship between Kikyo and Inuyasha and takes place after the defeat of Naraku, the main antagonist, being responsible for almost every atrocity and misfortune in the series.

The game starts with a pretty animated screen that includes a pleasant music and a link to a gallery, where you can see the pictures you collected during the game. Anyway after a looooong intro (that however contains some nice scenes from the anime and also typos!) we finally take control of Inuyasha and some old friends after some travels that will unfortunately introduce us with something I hated about this game: the labyrinths with infinite random encounters with wild animals and monsters that you'll have to fight, and the impossibility to save inside dungeons (you need to use the save points, however there was a item to save wherever you want). Travelling is a nuisance because it makes the game harder and less enjoyable, luckily you can later activate some teleport stones to neable fast travel, but not always their position will help much.

On the other hand combat is not bad at all, the only problem is the lacking of a real healing ability that doesn't require herbs, meaning that you have to buy ton of them... since if you run out of herbs, especially during boss battles, winning can be impossible! Sigh.

This game includes battles! Against demons and old men that... can use elemental attacks!!! OUCH! Do not underestimate them!

Anyway the game offers something else besides combat encounters, exploration and dialogues: minigames each that uses its own system! There are in fact some extra activities that if you complete them with A+ will net you a special item! That's really helpful, moreover you can save before attempting them. That's a good idea.

I also liked graphics a lot: the game uses scenes and pictures taken from the anime but also sprites (charsets and battlers) from games like Inuyasha and the Divine Jewel (for Nintendo DS) and Inuyasha: A Feudal Fairy Tale (for PS1). There is no need to say that they're perfect for this game and in my opinion they also merge pretty well with the classic RPG Maker XP RTPs tilesets. Mapping is also ok, I mean there are some really nice locations (these where most cutscenes happen and where you go more than once) while others are a bit boring and I'm especially referring to the dungeons. I mean cutting them out from the game would have only benefitted the whole adventure, since time spent walking inside mazes fighting wild animals isn't inside interesting nor related to the plot.
Oh there are also custom menus and these are pretty good even if you will need some time to understand how it works (there is no explanation, also no maps! These could have been useful), anyway it's not bad and likewise sounds and music are ok, there are even some voiceovers!

The game includes also minigames like shoot the evil birds! Red bar is our life, the green one is the shadow bird's energy. Who will survive?

Final Verdict
Inuyasha ~TAMASHI~ is in my opinion a mixed bag: looks awesome with its custom menus and nice sprites, I also liked some minigames and the scent system, but I remember hating the puzzle in the mines and the endless battles inside the empty dungeons... anyway combat is ok, but do you know what I did not really liked? The story! Ok I did not want to spoil so I never really talked about it, anyway in my opinion it's not really good since it starts after the defeat of the bad guy but then BAM! Time travel! Going back in time qith consequental time reset... wny? Wasn't ok making a simple alternate timeline or even a side-adventure that did not require time travel? In the end this is still an ok game, but it would have been really better with much less dungeons and battles against birds and wolves or use avoidable enemies (that are a lot of waste of time and have no part in the story, that's already pretty long), maps in the menu (for orientating better) and maybe no time travel... I mean just start the game from the old timeline, why not? Pity, a missed opportunity since the aestetics are good and this could have been a great fangame. Still if you are a fan of InuYasha you can enjoy this adventure, otherwise I'd suggest you to olay something else!
