The Story:
Welcome to VoidCo, a corporate hell beyond your imagination.
This company controls the afterlife and drains energy from unfortunate souls that end up in its grasp. It is widely regarded as evil by those who oppose it. Sadly however, it is also one of the largest employers in the Furthest Ring, having bought out countless other companies out here in the abyss.
Nobody likes it here. At least nobody with an intact conscience.
You are Hyacinth, and you are an executive's personal assistant. You were forced into this position after he stole your heart... in more ways than one. Having been brought back to life in a weaker clone of your original body, you are trapped here in Gotham Tower, the VoidCo. HQ. If you attempt to escape, you will die. Again. (and then get revived as a clone, again.)
With no way out, you have resigned yourself to secretarial work and whatever else your eccentric boss expects you to do.
But, there is hope.
Legend states that the Key To Unionization can be found in the Heart of the Tower. To open the door to the heart, you must collect four keys from four departments. If you can collect the keys, open the door to the Heart of the Tower, and obtain the Key to Unionization, you may be able to initiate the Vast Strike, and finally bring this company to its knees...
...or maybe its just wishful thinking topped with an extra helping of bullshit.
Truth or not though, you have a mission. You must uncover as many secrets as you can find. Even if the department keys don't exist, there's certain to be something you can glean from the departments that supposedly hold them.
Gameplay:
This game uses the undertale battle system, allowing you to fight or negotiate with your enemies. Do note however that Hyacinth has a moral compass of their own and will give you a game over if you level them up too much, though there may be a way to bend this limitation if you wish to take a darker, bloodier path.
Between actions, you will need to dodge projectiles.
Outside of encounters, there will be puzzles and traps. Puzzles will likely be standard puzzle fare, but traps will activate an attack that you will need to deal with on short notice.
Characters:
Hyacinth Emit - Heir of Time
The protagonist. A doomed offshoot of Rise Emit. They use a knife in battle. They use their time powers to keep time working in Gotham Tower, Or Else. They have an unfortunate attraction to their boss, which they wish they didn't have, if only because of all the trouble its gotten them into.
Larkspur Emit - Heir of Time
An un-doomed(?!) offshoot of Hyacinth that somehow escaped captivity. They occasionally visit their counterpart in their dreams to relay information back and forth and offer encouragement. Apparently the version of their boss from their timeline is also on the loose somewhere out there... Needless to say, they've got a lot of trauma to work through.
Dylan REDACTED - Page of Void
The CEO of VoidCo. A rather mercurial and violent man with a perchance for baseball. Apparently he cannot feel pain. He can also walk through walls, teleport, and phase through anything he wishes. And yet he's still afraid of being assassinated. If he dies, the monster he holds within will be unleashed and bring doom to all who witness it.
Thanatos Emit - Heir of Time
The first offshoot of Rise Emit. An eternal teenage ghost that has managed to study enough to become a licensed reaper. They welcome all offshoots of Rise who fall, henceforth known as The Fallen. Apparently an independent contractor, as far as VoidCo. is concerned. Was once in soul debt from student loans but managed to get a trusted friend to pay it off in a more ethical currency.
Skye M. - Maid of Void
A wisecracking british train nerd with countless instances across paradox space. There's one with wings, one that actually gets to drive trains, one that has to work in the IT department (much to her eternal dread and dismay), and even one that's actually a troll from Alternia. A great friend and powerful ally if you get on her good side, a terrifying force if you prove to be an enemy. Has a hate/love relationship with computers.
Leta - Dream Witch
A powerful witch with dominion over dreams. Visiting from another dimension, she's managed to carve out a few safe places where voidco cannot easily reach. She took away Dylan's ability to dream, gave Hyacinth (and Larkspur) the ability to find respite in the Dream Cabin, and continues to nudge things here and there.
Samm - Page of Mind
A 2000 year old goddess with an interest in various types of magic. She is also the adoptive mother of the Emits, allowing Larkspur to live at her house while they are recovering from the years of servitude they endured under Dylan.
Locations:
Gotham Tower -
The VoidCo. HQ. Apparently made by dersite builders before it was jettisoned into the Furthest Ring. The hallways tend to shift on occasion, often re-arranging and resetting the countless traps that Dylan had installed here. Apparently the tower is alive on some level...? Many of the employees live here, on account of it being in the literal middle of nowhere. Most tend to sleep in odd spots (usually under a desk), but some who are lucky (or high ranked enough) actually get an apartment. Obviously Dylan's bougie-ass apartment is the biggest and fanciest one here. Now if only Hyacinth could get a real bed to sleep in...
Dream Cabin -
A safe place to rest for a moment while Hyacinth is asleep. Here you can restore health with the magical food on the table, write in your journal, converse with Larkspur on occasion, and spend time with your pet chicken (a gift from Samm). There may also be other features to this warm home-like abode...
Land of Dream and Nightmares -
Leta's domain. An entire real planet contained within a dreambubble. It is home and sanctuary to countless spirits who manage to make their way here.
Tower of the Fallen -
An infinitely tall clock tower in the Underworld dreambubble. All versions of Rise call this place their eternal home. Unfortunately most of them are rude edgy 13 year olds, their numbers due to their hubris. Hyacinth once was restless here, before being kidnapped by VoidCo. Has an elevator that can go to any floor, as well as to the land of the living--if you are brave enough.
Desertia Town -
The capital of Desertia. Not particularly impressive, a dome-protected city in the midst of a vast desert. Being close to a major galactic trade route, it has a rather robust market square. Notable landmarks include the Plit Portal, Gene's Garden (a bar ran by mice that happens to have an elevator to the Tower of the Fallen), the AC Memorial Robotics Laboratory, Arkham Hospital (its usually just called desertia hospital), and Desertia courthouse. President Katyleen Kitten lives here.
Content warnings:
This game contains references to self harm, suicidal ideation, and various types of implied abuse. There is also blood present.
