I recently watched FMA Brotherhood (I've never watched the classic FMA) and I have to say I was kind of disappointed. I don't see why people are so crazy about that manga. It's not bad but it doesn't have anything that really stands out, I feel like they could have done much more with such a good background.
I wasn't aware it was possible for one person to be so wrong. Let's dismantle that list and start over.
The best anime of 2011 were, in no particular order, Madoka Magica, Steins;Gate, Fate/zero, and Mirai Nikki. The real debate is over how to rank them.

Wow I don't quite agree with Mario's list. Full Metal Alchemist doesn't even count as 2011...unless you're talking about the movie. Bleach, Naruto and One Piece have aged considerably and now are kinda not of top notch anymore.
The rest are subjective to personal opinion, though really, I think you should watch the real good ones like what Sailerius mentioned.

No love for Level E, Nichijou and Usagi Drop?

Honorable Mentions:
Fate/Zero - I'm unable to call this one as the anime hasn't finished airing and I am backlogging this to watch it in one go. The first episode, which I watched to check out the anime, was great.
Mirai Nikki - Like Fate/Zero, anime is still airing and unfinished. I've been keeping up with it and it's great for the most part.
Fairy Tail - Airing since 2009 and still going strong; we haven't had an anime like that in a long while (it's even getting a movie next year!). Can't call this year's batch of episodes as I've been backlogging this, but prior episodes cement Fairy Tail's awesome reputation.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica - Why did I not mention Madoka Magica up in the list above, you ask? Because Madoka Magica is, at its core, nothing more than a deconstruction of the mahou shoujo genre. Yes, it was a great anime, but it's not as BADASSCRAZYAWESOME like many people make it out to be. Incidentally, Madoka Magica is getting a trilogy movie!
Total, epic failures:
Mobile Suit Gundam AGE - Shallow plot, shallow characters, setting that directly rips off previous Gundams without remorse, boring mecha, titular Gundam mecha that is essentially an Ultraman Tiga knockoff, horrible animation budget, boring music, and obnoxious sound effects. Seriously, I don't care whether or not Gundam AGE looks or is meant for kids, there's nothing great about it besides it carrying Gundam's name.
Persona 4 The Animation - Plot that doesn't move forward at all and boring characters. I'm pretty sure the game's far more awesome and that the anime doesn't do it justice.
