THE "STUFF YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT!" CORNER

I was toying with the idea of making a sticky (or section on the main page) that highlights some awesome things on our sight that everyone should see/read/download.

It would have to be run by someone who has time to check out nearly everything that gets uploaded on to the site (which isn't as hard as it sounds, since we don't get all that much).

Anywho, the purpose of the Awesome Attic would be to give that extra bit of attention to items that deserve it. It's kind of like the Featured Game concept but expanded to the whole site.

Things in it would be like:

"This new game was just uploaded Bob and Doug Kill The Demons. Sounds CLITCH, but it's really good! You should download it and play it!"

"There's a neat new community project starting here: <link>. It's about a mission based chain game like whatever whatever etc..."

"Must Read Articles
* FUNdamentals of RPGs
* Brickroads How not to suck at everything
* Him's explanation why RM is dying and why it's your fault"

"Check out Ephiam's latest vid here <link>"

Old stuff would be rotated out and new stuff added, perhaps on a weekly basis.

Unfortunately, I don't have that kind of free time, but if someone wants to take it up as a pet project, and "own" the idea, feel free!

Really, I think this is what I've wanted the site News postings to be about.
I've seen a lot of these on other communities/sites and have generally found them very helpful. Unless someone else had wanted to do it, I may be up to handling it. It wouldn't even nesscessarily need to be all content hosted here on RMN; perhaps just various links of interest for the aspiring developer? :]

I don't nesscessarily concur with the sentiment that it should be redone on a weekly basis-- certain content is timelessly helpful for a dynamic memberbase. It could certainly be added to, though.
When was the last time we updated the news, WIP?

EDIT:

Also, some content is only relevant for a short while, like "Check out this latest vid by Ephiam, 'tis awesome!" or "There's a riveting discussion about ponies in General - check it out!"

Never. It's because we are lazy and dumb, kentona.

Anyways, I mentioned the news because GW and other sites used to have great news "round ups" posted talking about latest games and such.

Anyways, I'm just wondering how some of this will come in to play with RMN3's features lurking.
I guess I've always considered the News as "Administrator's Announcements" and you feel it should be more about "Here's Shit that's going on Now! Check it out!"

While Admin Announcements are important, I agree that we should take advantage of the News feed for more community shtuff.
I guess my interpretation of what Kentona was suggesting was slightly off-base. I had in mind something similiar to one of GW's resource topics; ideally containing a helpful and comprehensive listing of various resources, utilities, tools, (etc.) that exist externally from RMN.

Obviously it would be unique to this site and worth checking out on it's own merits, due to the frequency of updates, obscurity of material listed, etc. A possibility?
I'm okay with something like that. Feel free to take it up and make a post.

EDIT:

Also, I liked the GI&D Sticky: Cool Topics (mostly because I was listed!)
It would be best if this feature were kept concise. The old GW had lots of features added on and eventually it was just a stupid mess. If we can divert everyone's attention to just a handful of important pieces of content at a time, we can ensure a high ratio of members actually checking it out. If it's a convoluted pile with way too much stuff to keep track of, very few people will bother digging in.
So apparently I was unaware of this particular topic existing on RMN. Would it still be advisable to follow-up with with an enhanced version; or just leave it be? (What I had in mind was something obviously more comprehensive, but!)
Did someone want to make a "Articles you should read" post in the Game Design forum? It would follow the same format as Blind's resource post.

Of course, it is not restricted to articles and tutorials from here, but that would be a place to start.
Since we are on this discussion anyway, I thought I'd move this topic to Site Feedback.

This is a good idea and I wouldn't mind volunteering for this kind of thing BUT not too soon, I need to make up my backlog of official reviews first.
As I said before, I would love volunteering for it and I could write something up today if you guys helped me round up what is newsworthy for this week.
Never heard of it.

Hahah, give me until this evening, and I'll have something written up.

Yay, my old resource topic!

Also BM, please tell me you know about THIS TOPIC
Check the dates on the posts. I moved this from the super secret forum of secretivity.
...Blindmind has access to the secret forum? Something I didn't know. How does that work if his status is Member?
This is quite an old topic back when he was Contributor.
