GIVING KENTONA HS BREAK (INTERVIEW THREAD)

Posts

Pages: first 12 next last
Since kentona is taking a break from his SNEWS articles, I thought it would be interesting to amke an interview thread with a few questions for all members to answer. It can be as long or short as you want, as members will look at your name first and decide whether or not they want to read your blurbs. Here are the topics:

1. Describe your RMN history and experiences.

2. Talk about yourself.

3. Talk about your RPG Maker work ethics.

4. Describe where you get your ideas from.

5. Talk about your games and why they are/were worth making.

6. Little Known Facts about yourself.

7. Future game making prospects (what projects will you be working on next?)
1. I only discovered RMN last month. Wow, it's only been a month? Time is so moving slower than I thought. Anyway, so far it's been a good experience, although I seem to have made an enemy. My questions have been answered in a polite manner, aside from a couple duds towards the beginning of my stay here. The community here is nice, aside from any of the hated users in the city dump that I've never met, and am glad I haven't.

2. Not much to say here. I like RPGs, and have always wanted to create one. Truth be told, I stumbled onto RMXP by complete accident. I was just searching for a free flash RPG different from some the ones I play on Armor Games, and stumbled across RMXP.

3. Work ethics, let's see...edit something on my current project for a few minutes, and browse the internet for an hour. Rinse and repeat. I think I'm procrastination's bitch in this scenario. But I've still managed to get a fair amount of stuff done.

4. Originally I was going to base my first game on some of my Roleplays from when I used to play City of Heroes, then when I was making a flashback for one of my characters, the thought of two different worlds (similar but different to Tales of Symphonia) occurred to me, and it stuck ever since.

5. I was originally working on my RMXP game Bronze Soul, which is what my #4 example describes. I was having a blast making story elements, characters, powers, animations, even maps. Then my trial expired, and I was unable to activate my purchased copy of RMXP. So, sadly, I had to hiatus it. Fortunately, I got a refund (banks aren't that bad), so that's a decent situation right there, though if I was able to activate my product in the first place, I wouldn't have needed a refund.
Now I downloaded RM2K3, and am currently working on a new game called Spes Amor et Resurgum. But I'm just not feeling the same level of satisfaction in making it as I did Bronze Soul. I don't know if I ever will, but I'm trying my best.

6. Little known facts, let's see...I got nothin'.
EDIT: Oh, wait, here's one. If I have the choice to play as a man or woman in a game, I will pick woman every single time. Unless the woman is downright ugly, or isn't the class I want to use.

7. Well, if my RMXP problem gets solved, I'll be able to work more on Bronze Soul, but until that time, I have no future plans past my RM2K3 game. But I might make something after it.

A what?
Or maybe you're just burning potential future SNEWS interviewees.

look, a circlejerk thread!

To be honest, there's nothing wrong with getting to know one another.

I mean I've been posting with some of you for years now and I don't know shit about a lot of you. This community is sort of distant in regards to that sort of thing, I noticed.
Again I ask, what's a circlejerk thread?
Where everyone just sort of beats themselves and each other off in terms of how great they perceive themselves/each other to be.

Which doesn't have to happen here! I've seen this exact same concept of a thread work in other (and closer) communities without any drama whatsoever, and everyone walks away knowing more about their fellow posters and perhaps even getting closer. Just be as honest and objective as you can about yourself.

I'll contribute in a bit, I'm a bit busy now, though.

I see. Now I'm afraid my interview piece will be considered circlejerk-like.

1. Describe your RMN history and experiences.
I've joined RMN back in '08 due to TownShip Games (I believe that was what it was called) closing down from inactivity and was looking for a place where I could work on my projects while playing other amateur developer's games. My posting here has been off and on, and sometimes I feel like I am giving a bad impression, but maybe that's just me. XD

2. Talk about yourself.
I've been messing around with the RPG Maker systems since '03, but sadly, I have yet to make even one full project. I remember making my very first project in RM2k3 which only made it to a 5-8 minute demo with everything being RTP (not in the good way), and posted it on Gaming Galaxy, lol. This was before Gaming Galaxy became Loose Cannon Gaming which LCG turn into TownShip Games, I think.

I grew up in a little town that I am positive is 80% occupied by rednecks, making me one of the few who didn't go out drinking and shooting my hunting rifle. I played Highschool football and spent most of my time on the sidelines until my Senior year where I made it to kick-off special teams! <<;; I also did track, but after realizing how much I suck at sports, I quit doing sports half way through in my Senior which not surprisingly, pissed everyone off.

Oh, I try my best to not be, but I have a tenancy to come off as arrogant.

3. Talk about your RPG Maker work ethics.
The best time I get working is when I put on my headphones, pick a playlist, turn the volume up loud enough to jam without bleedin' out my ears, and go to town. This helps to isolate my mind, at least it feels as it does, and make things that much easier on myself to work on my RM games, even if they never get completed. In summary, if I'm not jammin', I'm not developing.

4. Describe where you get your ideas from.
2.5/4ths of the time my not so brilliant mind comes up with some idea from out of nowhere, I work on the idea to give it shape for about a month until I realize that someone beat me to the punch by either a few months or a few years. My other inspirations actually come from commercial games, anime (that's right, I said anime!), and believe it or not, RM games. I've actually been inspired to keep trying to make a full game thanks to Eike's Notes of the Second Mellynd War game when I played it on the 2k3.

I used to be inspired by music and tried to make a project to wrap around that tune, but I grew out of this, thankfully.

5. Talk about your games and why they are/were worth making.
I seriously wish I could, but, uh, I got no game to prove my skill at RMing.

6. Little Known Facts about yourself.
Within the year, I have developed a weird habit of twirling my hair if it is long enough, LIKE NOW! I've also been told I got me some mean beard and chops like Wolverine. I'm highly ignorant, not praising myself for that by the way. It is an understatement when I say my sense of humor is extremely weird and different if I am the only one laughing. ^^;;

Oh, I don't care about what anyone thinks, but I've always thought accents like British and Australian were downright sexy regardless of gender!

7. Future game making prospects (what projects will you be working on next?)
NEXT?! What the hell! I gotta finish one to even consider workin' on another!....... Terrible joke, I know. XD

gonna write this real quick so don't mind the horrible grammar

1. Describe your RMN history and experiences.
The first rm site i was an active member at was rrr, so when I heard about rmn I threw up a game of mine to get the word out. The comments I got on it and the posts I was reading on the forums made me fall in love with rmn, there was no circle jerking, if your game is shit nobody is gonna hesitate to say so, funny ass people on the irc, all in all I stopped going to rrr altogether and made rmn my home.

2. Talk about yourself.
I'm 21 and go to community college. I'm a poor bastard and love nothing more than to unwind some stress and hang around with buddies having some beers and talking about the finer things in life. I like to think that I'm a nice person but when you catch me on irc I'm usually fucked up making random comments and annoying the shit out of everybody. I love soccer, video games, alcohol, and vaginas. I'm a simple person.

3. Talk about your RPG Maker work ethics.
Usually I work on my rpg at nights before I head out to bed, I make myself comfortable put on some music and just get down to business, taking a cigarette break every 20 or so minutes to brainstorm.

4. Describe where you get your ideas from.
everything around me, movies, conversations, games, music, personal experiences, poems, I just rip and piece stuff together and add my own crazy imagination to it.

5. Talk about your games and why they are/were worth making.
I tried rpg maker2000 when i was in 7th grade and suffering from a fucked up flu so I was stuck at home and bored. I don't remember how I found rpgmaker2000 but it was a chance meeting. Safe to say i never finished anything and stopped rpg making until last year when I was once again sick and bored and tried out rpgmaker vx. I started on a project of mine which I dubbed Vylternia Chapters, it was revised like 68765 times because the original concept was godawful. I finally posted it on rrr and got so many compliments I thought I was the motherfucking king of rpgmaker. Then skie shot my game down. Then I went to rmn and darken shot my game down. Then 20678+++ more people shot my game down. Each time I went back to the drawings board taking with me their critiques and tried to improve. Why? I want Vylternia Chapters to be THE GAME of mine, my baby, so of course I want to give it my all. However I finally realized that I just don't have the skills and resources (team members) to shape the game how I want to, so until I feel like I do Vylternia Chapters will be on hiatus. Currently I am working on a game called Evocation of gates, a game that was originally thought up by Ark.

6. Little Known Facts about yourself.
I'm very compassionate.

7. Future game making prospects (what projects will you be working on next?)
After evocation of gates I don't really know what I'll do next. I start SOOOOO many projects but have yet to finish any. So until evocation is done I don't even want tp think of other projects.

1. Describe your RMN history and experiences.
I joined RMN 08/05/2009 at 04:18 PM. Shit, I've been here for over a year! I am a notable creator of such excellent releases as... What am I talking about, I only make vaporware. I am the .5 in the Official RMN Homos counter. That must count for something.

2. Talk about yourself.
18/M/Seattle seeking M or F for casual fun with d20s. Apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic campaigns only. Half-orcs need not apply.

3. Talk about your RPG Maker work ethics.
1) make some cool looking shit, edit some chapsets, etc
2) make lots of maps with the above
3) post screenshots

4. Describe where you get your ideas from.
Gay porn. Also D&D campaigns. Also particle board of every film I've ever watched and every book I've ever read. Also comic books.

5. Talk about your games and why they are/were worth making.
Currently, the only one worth making is Chromatose, and that will only see work done on it once Aznchipmunk gets done with Muse. It is worth making because there is totally awesome shit that I know people will dig but we can't talk about it yet because it is SEKRITS. WAIT YOU HEARD NOTHING

6. Little Known Facts about yourself.
My penis is approx. 5.8 inches long.

7. Future game making prospects (what projects will you be working on next?)

I like talking about myself

1. Describe your RMN history and experiences.
Joined in 2008 because I disliked RRR and needed somewhere else to discuss sci-fi storylines and chapsets.

2. Talk about yourself.
18 year old male, going to university next month to study Chemical Engineering. For all intents and purposes a British Asian (although I've yet to get a British passport; one more year to go hopefully). My interests are (slightly older) video games, pub quizzes, music and football. I support the local team (which just HAPPENS to be Man United). Becoming really interested in cooking.

3. Talk about your RPG Maker work ethics.
"Man I'm NEVER going to be able to complete a game!!!"
*at 12 am, an idea!* "Where's my notebook" *writes for an hour or two* *sleeps*
Then I wake up all psyched in the morning, get to work almost immediately but give up a couple of hours later realising graphics are a pain to prepare. Cycle repeats.

4. Describe where you get your ideas from.
Other games. and toys I played with when I was a kid. Music as well.

5. Talk about your games and why they are/were worth making.
N/A

6. Little Known Facts about yourself.
- Plagued by the weirdest problems since I was a kid. Totally incomprehensible at 2 years of age, have a very rare bleeding disorder (experienced by 1 in a million people apparently), and for some reason since I was 10 I've had a bit of a phobia of eating in public. Problem died out when I turned 13, but for some reason it resurfaced a couple of months ago...
- Bit embarrassing to admit but....I can barely speak my mothertongue! Damn you globalisation. Can understand it 100% though so it's never much of a problem.
- Used to a be a bit of a YuGiOh fan.
- Looking for a Hayley Williams poster despite hating Paramore.

7. Future game making prospects (what projects will you be working on next?)
- Not sure atm.
