DOWNLOAD SIZE LIMIT

Is there still a limit on a game's download size. I vaguely recall there originally being one, but what about now?
There is a filesize threshold that we subjectively observe when looking at download submissions in the queue. It is 20MB.

Anything over 20 MB gets extra scrutiny.

As far as I know there is no hard filesize limit. I am pretty sure we have some downloads upwards of 140 MBs, probably more.

An example of a file with upwards of 140 MBs is Nightmare in Sunnydale, California. 178MB file there.

Yeah there's no hard limit. We have the option to not host anything over 20MB but we usually do.

My biggest download for a completed game is just barely over 10 MB.

Then again, I also don't stuff my downloads with entire MP3 soundtracks, so...
context: my saves for a single region on dwarf fortress amounts to ~75MB

What about games that use a fair amount of resources, the larger completed ones. You'd be hard-pressed to find one that stays below 30-40 MB. Then there's games that are needlessly large because most of their soundtrack is MP3s or lengthy WAVs such as Legend of Liberace 3 that used to be a staggering 500+ MB.

People do not even have the decency to use compressed ogg files for their games. Never mind that RPG Maker XP, VX, and even 2k3 (with Disharmony) supports the format. It is my right as a member of this website to use the largest audio file size as possible and I will never, ever allow that to be taken from me.

Keep your eyes peeled for Balmung Cycle Pt 2: Alrick Does Midgard, which will arrive with fresh lossless flac files. We are living in a modern world, deal with it.

I remember a long time ago on Gaming World some guy used Windows sound recorder to convert his Rm2k midi files into mp3s just because "mp3 is better". I miss those days...
