THE "YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE..." RMN GAMEPAGE MOVEMENT

In our discussions about participation in the community, I revived the old idea of "If you like X, you might like Y..." game recommendations. It's a good idea - lots of places like Amazon and eBay and e-Store #5783 use it to sell more goods. While we would love to implement it into the site code itself (somehow, someday) its not as high on the priority list as, say, bug fixes.

Anywho, in that thread I said:
As for increasing the consumption of games, remember that "If you like X you might like Y" thing? There was some drive to make it an official part of the gamepages but it is low on the priority list. But nothing stops us from voluntarily do this. Perhaps I will lead by example and add notes to my gamepage that link viewers to other games of the same ilk.

So I followed through with my "If you like X..." suggestion for my 3 main games:

http://rpgmaker.net/games/146/recommendation/
http://rpgmaker.net/games/1044/recommendation/

...recommending 3~4 games that I thought were decent AND similar to my game (based on conjecture and feedback, since I rarely play games (this is bad, I know!)).

I endevour you to do the same.

So, edit your gamepages to add another page and recommend 2 to 5 other games on the site that others would like.

The steps I took were:
1. Account > Manage Games > my game
2. Click Pages (upper right) and Add New Page
3. Gave it a title of "You might also like..."
4. Primary == checked
5. called the slug "recommendation"
6. In the body, used something like this:

If you like Hellion, you might also like...

To get the images, I went to the gamepage of my target game and either hotlinked to the image directly OR saved it to my desktop, resized it to the size I wanted, and uploaded it to my Locker and linked to it there.

Who else is in? (or can make a better framework?)
I shall remember to do this from now on.
Yeah this is actually a very great idea. Too bad this has to be done manually :(
THIS

IS

AWESOME

Edit: I'll do this once I finish studying.

I didn't even know you could add pages. I did it now for Paradise Blue.

The problem with doing it through the site, is that I don't know how I would make it. There are currently no real metrics to base this off of.
This is cool and as long as the site has no real way of doing this it will be serviceable.
Well, from a design or use case point of view, I could see it as a separate custom page in Manage Game wherein you have 3 "slots" where you can do a search for games in the RMN database that you would link to from your game. Once selected, the site would set up a hyperlink, game name, creator and a picture of the primary screenshot on the You Might Also Like... tab on the gamepage. Also on this tab there would be a simple hyperlink list of "The following games have linked to this game", which show what games have linked to your own on the right-hand side.

But would this be at the sole discretion of the creator? kentona has admitted up front he hasn't played any of the games he linked to....

Well, not quite - I've actually played them all. Only very very briefly. And its possible that there were better game choices out there that I'm not aware of.
I will do this ASAP (edit: done). Great idea.

That's exactly an issue I see with this, Solitayre.

I would also "recommend" that we call these pages the "Recommendations" page. "You might also like" is a little clumsy sounding and I am OCD like that.
I considered that but it seems too vague to me.
"You might also like" is more natural sounding and jumps out at the reader.
This is an excellent idea. Just updated my gamepage.
Should this be stickied, or otherwise made prominent so everyone can see it?

can't make a bad game if you don't finish any games

Idea: Reviewers set tags like "ARPG", "Difficult", "Trippy", etc from pull-down lists and RMN uses those to parse what games are similar?
Got the one for Neo Lescia finished.
