MISAOS - GETTING THE WORD OUT

Posts

So, the Misaos are coming soon(-ish) and we realized that we should do a better job of getting the word out this year. We've had a large influx of members lately from other forums, so I'd like to lean on the memberbase here for site suggestions and potentially volunteers to make posts on these sites when we are ready to do so (We're ready now!).

List:

Code:

So the Misaos have started! Let's get the word out people.

For ease of word-outing, copy and paste this into your message:

As of 12:01am on February 17th, 2009, the 2008 Misaos Awards are active. Most of you probably think you know the drill, but we're doing things a little differently this time around. Some key things to take note of:

- Category nominations this year are fixed. That is, they were pre-determined by rpgmaker.net with feedback from our users. Hopefully this will allow for a more consistent process from year to year. However, our web application hasn't changed.

- As a reminder, [b]only games that were actually released during the 2008 calendar year are eligible[/b]. Games that were released in the years previous are ineligible, unless they had a re-release with a substantial amount of content changes and/or bugfixes. Games released in the 2009 calendar year are also ineligible unless they had a prior release in the 2008 calendar year. For a fairly comprehensive listing of 2008 games, visit here: [url=http://www.rpgmaker.net/forums/index.php?topic=3067.0][url]http://www.rpgmaker.net/forums/index.php?topic=3067.0[/url][/url] or here: [url=http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=77910.0][url]http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=77910.0[/url][/url]

- rpgmaker.net will be actively monitoring the nomination and voting processes. Any attempts to game the system, whether by outright cheating or "poll flooding" will result in disciplinary action up to and including permanent bans for the users involved and their game being rendered ineligible for the Misaos. One person, one vote, no groupthink. We will not be terribly lenient with this.

- You cannot nominate or vote for your own project.

The timeline for the remaining processes should each last one week and are as follows:

- Game nominations will run from 12:01am on [b]February 18th, 2009 through February 24th, 2009.[/b]

- Game voting will run from 12:01am on [b]February 25th, 2009 through March 3rd, 2009[/b].

- The official results will be tallied and announced the following week.

Get nominatin' and spread the word!

Thanks everyone!
I'll volunteer for RRR. Begrudgingly.
Of note, these sites also help me with making the 2009 Release List, and also, there are some 2008's we missed for the other list.

And I think I will make a post at RPG Palace, seeing as I have an account there.

I just realized, there are a lot of rm2k sites! Jesus!!!

I think you guys will do fine, good that you guys are finally getting down to business! *waves his GO BARKLEY GO flags* :P
Considering queenscourt.org used to host the Misaos, and I'm the only one who can actually post there, I'll update it with Misao info.

Remember what happened last year.. And their community isn't really the best. I didn't know Rpg Palace was back, good shit.

Why not?

Because their community is composed of a bunch of 12 year olds who don't know what a switch is and will by default vote for whatever piece of trash RTP XP game they think is brilliant without even taking a glance at the other entries. And they have more than enough voting power to make actual worthwhile games lose. See: last year.
I would hardly call games like Master of the Wind and Quintessence trash RTP games.

Not saying that other games didn't deserve certain rewards MORE, mind you, but really.
Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to stir the pot! I was asking because I actually didn't know.

To be honest, RRR is the exact same way.

Heh... the RPG Making torch has been passed on to a new generation. And they blew it out...
Misaos are totally a People's Choice awards type of award. And, frankly, it's the only real way to have "awards" - it's not like the RM community has some official governing body from which to impartially select nominess and recipients.
I would.

Do you really think you're clever? Stop the peanut gallery shit.

Besides, awards rarely represent quality, especially not when they involve a popular vote. We cannot disregard the votes of a community simply because we do not agree with them. If we want the Misaos to be about quality then a panel of respected (or even voted in, x from each community) judges should decide what gets what. If we want a popular vote then we must live with the consequences of that.

This is not, and never will be, the point of the Misaos.

We actually did something like this a long time ago, and it was just as bad or worse than drama caused by the Misaos.
I was referring to the panel.

We did it once. It kinda sucked.
