THE MORONIC FORUM IS DEAD. NOW WHAT?

Okay, the Moronic Forum is still there, but what I meant by 'dead' is twoway; DD, the most active member on the MF and the entire board has moved on, and the Moronic Forum no longer counts towards overall posts. But this isn't about the MF. Funnily enough, these two events seem to coincide with some pretty dramatic drops in activity; all February we've been lucky to break 100 posts a day, and one day we didn't even break 50. Here's some words you can review;

If we need DD to get barely above 60 posts a day then we need to really evaluate how active we really are.

This.

I could honestly care less about that graph. The dramatic decrease is only due to moronic posts no longer counting, as well as our #1 & #5 posters moving on. I've rather have more quality posts and less "rate the above user's nostrils". Of course, right now we have neither.

The post count thing shouldn't really be an issue... unless you guys were just posting to increase your e-peen all along?

So yeah, what do to about this? We're struggling to get 100 posts a day (when our heyday was like 300+), and when people are here it's just 'X User is viewing main index of Forums' or just looking at a topic and not posting. And yes, before anyone says the standard; I know that 'people are workin on their games no time for postin', there are lulls in activity, and that 'YOU CAN'T FORCE PEOPLE TO POST, YOU MONSTER', yadda yadda yadda.

I am aware of those standard replies so let's think of solutions to; A. Get more people here to shake things up to break the monotony of the same two dozen people staring at each other. Fresh people, fresh ideas, fresh games. B. Get activity, interaction and posting back up in the community by members who are already here.

Holb: "rate the above user's nostrils".

Holy shit, this is great! I didn't even catch that Holb said that. Mad props.

I'm not entirely sure what would constitute an appropriate response, but I definitely agree that there's an issue here. I include myself in saying that a whole lot of members just sort of hang around and let things take their course rather than consistently playing an active role in the community-- and that's really pretty unfortunate. I don't know if this issue is limited to RMN alone: the community at large (at least as most of us know it) has considerably slowed down in recent years, and I'm not entirely sure if any single issue is to blame.

I mean, while I can truly only speak for myself, I don't think I'm too off-base in suggesting that game-making (or participating in general) often takes a backseat to more pressing personal issues... and I think this only worsens as many of our long-time members grow older and face additional responsibilities. I implore many of our newer members to perhaps pick up some of that slack and take a more active role in the site when (and however) they can. Perhaps I'm just looking at it the wrong way, though.
I think that I personally am actually decently active.

That said a way really needs to be found to attract new active members. How many of those 4.01 new members a day actually make an introduction topic, much less comment on any games?

Also, if more people would start posting again, wouldn't that whole watcha ma callit domino effect thingamajig happen, causing more posts because there's more to post about.

The bottom line: Your nostrils get a 2/10, I don't like them very much.

I believe you told someone that this place would be better if I left, Mog. So now what do you think? =)
I believe there is no significant correlation.

This is true; and I can relate seeing as I've been in the same situation recently (and still am to a certain degree). Sometimes things just get in the way and it's hard to stay active. But considering that I've seen members stay active and they're in their mid to upper twenties, that isn't necessarily a doomsday scenario.

Also like I said before, we really should think of ways to attract newer members to get fresh opinions, ideas, and games (and game discussion) around here. Going on a big advertising spree is always an idea, but I think we need more of a draw to get new and old people to be active and flowing.

Also, I really think we are behind the times by not offering scripts. :(

the best way to get fresh ideas, people, and opinions... is to do exactly what other sites are doing.
No. However, the addition of scripts have always seemed like a good idea to me, but it is not a central idea or tactic I would consider to get fresh ideas, people, and opinions. Just a supplementary idea I've held.

No...

Look at our resource section. Notice how it's not really all that full? And how most (if not all) resources can be found on other sites? If we had a scripts section, it would all just be copied and pasted from other sites. So where is the point?

There has been no change in activity outside of demondestiny and replies to his posts. If that is what we were depending on to be "active", I will argue that was the wrong direction to begin with.

"RMN is dying because VerifyedRasta posted a bizarre graph hotlinked for another website and because spam posts in the Moronic Forum no longer count as activity. Let's discuss."

This topic is ridiculous, unnecessary and quite possibly self-defeating. Also, locked.
