RMXP: 1.2 MILLION DOWNLOADS; RMVX: 95,000 DOWNLOADS

Even if we factor in that RmVX is newer, RmXP is getting far more downloads per week still. Why is this the case? Discuss.

Timing is probably #1. XP came out when 2k/3 was going really strong, and people were graphics whores (and some were mechanics whores, thus they liked the scripting aspect).
VX was kind of an afterthought and isn't nearly as much of a quantum leap as XP was.

Because VX's graphic style looks like ass.
Obviously not the only or important reason, just throwing my two cents.

-It's the first option when searching for "RPG Maker", so naturally a person will click on the first link.
-Has a slightly higher User Rating on the site
-Has "XP" in the name, VX sounds weird so that is a possible reason.
Most people are not 'in' the community as much as us, so the issues you guys are talking about probably only apply to a very small minority of the people downloading.

I find them alright but i much prefer 2k3 ones more.
Anyway, i'm surprised XP has way more downloads. I thought VX would have been killing it.
XP: Guy plays finished and polished XP game like Last Scenario. "Hey that's pretty neat lets try this RPG Maker XP thingy".

GRS, I still can't believe that you dedicate a portion of your webspace to emoticons. A good point, though; Last Scenario is all over the internet and is the only game that I've reached L99 in. I can't see how I wouldn't want to use XP after it... except that I know that VX > XP.
VX is still young though and XP has been out for like 4 years now hasn't it? I'm sure it will go up. I'm just wondering if AGM will match up to the downloads of XP when it comes out.
XP was released at the end of November in '05, making it a bit over three years. VX has been out for about ten months on the other hand.

One of his points is that RMXP still gets more downloads per week.
There's a reason why XP has more downloads.
1: It came out in like 2004 when 2k3 was going really well.
2. VX is not that old but even 95,000 is still pretty good seeing it's only a year or so old.
XP introduced scripting which most RM users wanted, but was it the right language? Probably not since most RM users used RPG Maker because they didn't have any programming experience.
VX Does indeed have a better scripting and gfx system, but it's still a pain the arse when adding tiles in it.
I still find free RPG Makers better though, sphere, ika, RPG-Toolkit etc.

VX was a step in the wrong direction in the one way that makes RPG Maker so popular, the ease of use with the Mapping/Event engine.
Making the map system MORE automated, with MORE limitations, was an abysmal failure. Its practically impossible to work with it, if you are trying to make anything even remotely complicated. I found myself using RMXP graphics as panoramas simply to make it usable.
It did improve greatly on the scripting engine, which is why when Dargor over at rmxp.org released the ability to use RGSS2 in RMXP, I was all over that.

RM2k3: 10,000,000,000 DOWNLOADS.
When something so good is so free...
And illegal.
Prexus: I haven't checked your topic yet, but it seems your webspace (specifically, for the job changer stuff) went down around new year's.
Also, Prexus, I don't find the mapping too limited... it works perfectly if you have a small scope. A game meaning to travel to five billion lands might grow stale, but there is that Disk Changer script.
I'm also not a huge fan of complex 7-layer picture-ridden maps, so. =D
