MAKING A PS1 RPG MAKER GAME STANDALONE EXE

Posts

Pages: 1
I have too many questions. I know. I'm not dumb I'm just a curious creator of curiousness. Whatever.

So my computer is getting fixed. A very sad day. Though I downloaded the RPG Maker PS1 game on my android. Not great but eh. :/ Though that isn't the question....

If I finished a game with the PS1 game, would there be a way to make it into an EXE file? I have no idea. That would be kinda cool. I already know how to get files off a phone and that sort of a thing. That isn't hard. This would make it so it could be a standalone game. That would be cool!

Thanks for all who help me out.
short answer: no

the way console rpgmakers distribute was just swapping save files, but someone would need access to the emulator + the rom and then your save file. even if you could molebox all that into an exe or whatever you'd be effectively distributing an illegal rom and still boot you to the rpgmaker screen to select the "game". the community now is about as big as the occasional reddit thread or youtube video comment section of people reminiscing about that one blockbuster rental that got them into the console rpg making. the PC rpgmakers are just way more sensible for delivering your game as if its a "real game" and by that I mean anyone interested in it would probably be a console RM enthusiast themselves.

there was a game distribution site (RPGM Pavillion) (that is just hosting saves) but even that site is effectively dead edit: though I think there's a discord somewhere so if you're extremely curious then maybe ask them.
Gotcha.
I wasn't planning to sell, don't worry. I'm not into that sort of thing. I just wanted a way to maybe do that, rpg making on the phone, but looks like that only emulation can do that. I'm down a computer temporarily, so I guess for now I'm mucking around on my phone. Oh well. :/

I suppose that I could host the 'game I did' on RPGM Pavilion?? Idk. I also have my own websites too - doubt that RMN will let me do that. Thanks though, that did help.
If you want to play or build RPG games on your phone, check EasyRPG. It has 2 components:
1) EasyRPG Player that let you play RM2k & 2k3 games on about anything from Linux to Android. I use it all the time to run 2k & 2k3 games on Linux.
2) EasyRPG Editor that let you build RPGs. I've never used it because I'm a crazy dev who code games in C.

If you makes games in 2k or 2k3, you can keep your usual workflow then copy your game to your phone and run it in EasyRPG Player.
Looks like they're still working on it. :/
Nice that they are replacing the RTP, it feels a lot more Nintendo ish now and not...hastily made rtp, eh? :/ That is pretty cool though.
The RTP replacement project is really nice. You can even use it in other engines if you give credit. That's what I did in Back From the Tavern to give the cutscenes a 2k3 style for the Boulevard of Broken 2k3 Dreams event.
No, I agree. It looks half decent now. When is it going to be done? Any dates on when it'll be done? I got my computer back now so I think this thread is pretty much done.

Though, I do have art training, I am an illustrator. I think, what the problem was with the initial RTP, are the colors that the RTP is using that make it less SNES or PS1 in feel.
The greens and blues in the RTP seem to be...more of a yellow green which is strange because in Dragon Quest, the colors are more leaning towards a green blue.

In that, the blues are a lot more blue like deep sea blue and the greens are more natural, healthy looking. I can't complain too much, it's stylized but whatever. It's not like a caveman drawing 8 bit like the really OLD Dragon Quests.

This is just in the editor but see how the greens are more yellow? Like what was ASCII and Enterbrain thinking when they released RPG Maker 2000 and 2003???

Now I have went into photoshop and did an edit with the Hue and Saturation method and kicked up the Blues by +100, and and the greens by +60, which makes it look more like this, which is a lot more Dragon Quest in nature, if that is indeed what these RPG Makers can do, and I think I solved why people couldn't make a 'good game' in their minds, maybe. Perhaps...

Even with that, that doesn't look quite right...hold on a minute.

With this, this would be with a -30 in the hue for the Greens, then a -30 in the Blues with a +50 in saturation which makes it a bit more accurate. I guess that other palette makes things seem more Final Fantasy-ish. Hmm.

And I guess in my mind, the only other thing that is 'missing' in the RTP is maybe attention to detail . And it almost looked like someone in ASCII or ENTERBRAIN had illustrated everything in Photoshop for the Facesets and monster sprites...

So really I think the problem was actually COLOR and not enough detail. A 320x240 work environment sounds like someone made it in a laboratory, on a smaller screen computer. I don't know though.

And the same would go for the rest of the RTP, that the colors are strikingly off. :/ Like what is life really.

You would need to provide the save file. And the person using the save file could load it onto an emulator and download the Rom.

I think you could legally provide the save file and the emulator; however, you could not provide the rom or a link to the rom.

(USA law has made emulators legal, but ROMs are illegal.)

I'm not sure what RMNs stance on this is, since they allow a lot of illegal stuff on their sight, but I'm sure they wouldn't allow the actual ROM to be hosted here?

There were user-made ROMs made with GB Studio during the 1.44 Floppy Disk event, and I think all those submissions also included an emulator to run them. They were still were under the file-size limit, too!

That aside, user-made ROMs is probably the extent by which this site would support them. Even if a person did make a singular EXE that's effectively a PS1 emulator running RPG Maker for that console, I sincerely have doubts that such a thing would be an acceptable submission for RMN. Still, one can ask Liberty or Frogge for clarification.

If you could do that, we could affectively add all the console RPG Makers to our database. To make a game, you could just include the emulator, the rom, and the save file + directions / easy way to execute the file. I think it's doable in the technical terms. It's the fact that you're essentially allowing a hacked version of a game on RMN. (Though it's hard not see the parallels with what we have with RPG Maker 2K3, etc.. The difference here is that these were licensed to be used on a particular system that wasn't PC.)

I also remembered that we allow Zelda Classic on this website too! And that includes a full play of Zelda on the NES, right? It's difficult to see where to draw the line with these sorts of things.

Orochii and I were just talking about this.
Just posting this here, cause the exe PS1 emulator thing has been done:

...I don't have 15.99 at the moment tho, yet.
Orochii sent me a copy but I haven't had a chance to figure out how the exe runs yet.

This would be a neat thing to figure out. Dudesoft shared his rpgmaker2 games on discord i have it somewhere but i had trouble figuring out how to convert android save files to PS2, but it is possible But yeah, as you guys said, whether or not we can facilitate this is another matter entirely.

But ya, this would be cool to check out just to see how it could be done.

If you want more rpgmaker PS1 games https://www.rpgmmag.com/ is another place to check out for PS1 save files/rpgmaker 1 games.

EDIT: just grabbed it for 17.00 if you swap the bin cue files located in Shadow Madness>res folder, you can rewrite the game.cue and have it play different ps1 game with it, it's also mcd1/mcd2 supported, so you can definitely transfer your ps1 rpgmaker games to this is.

This would probably be one way to do it. however it's not pretty and the emulator supplied is buggy in parts

EDIT2: Nevermind. the emulator supplied with shadow madness on steam fails to read rpgmaker ps1 games. but with other emulators it can, so we're back to square one again; the main hurdler here is mostly creating an .exe to run ps1 "rpgmaker 1" in and the copyright issues mentioned above, etc.

EDIT3: writing this down for ref; when importing save files for rpgmaker 1; open them in memcardrex, then copy and paste them to mcd1/mcd2 located in rec folder of shadow madness.

As far as I'm aware, the Zelda Classic engine comes with a "quest" file that uses the layout and enemies from the original Legend of Zelda, and is remade as faithfully to that game using that engine's tools. Which... probably puts it into a similar legal boat as any other fan game on this site? Perhaps less legal, since it's basically designed as a straight-up remake.
I had wondered so because I had only my phone to go by a couple days ago, as my computer cord had problems :/
I suppose though, if I still wanted to do that, I could 'host' them elsewhere or on my own website. I have a physical copy of the Playstation RPG Maker anyway. It's not really immediate anyway.
