CHRISTMAS HELP!!
Posts
Guys, I'm looking for a handheld device that also can easily double as a PDA (personal digital assistant). My wife is complaining about having too many events to track using her (massive) day planner.
While a PDA by itself is appealing, we've gone that route before and it's just to bulky to have that just be a PDA. It didn't last.
What I was thinking about was:
1) iPod touch
2) Zune
3) Nintendo DS
4) Something Else?
...but I have NO IDEA if any of these units have a functional calendar planner built-in. Can someone enlighten me? Also, can you play your MP3s on the iPod? (I don't know anyone who owns an iPod - shocking, I know).
NOTE: We are locked into our cellphone plans for another year at least, and if we wanted to switch to a smartphone we'd have to pay through the nose. (Yes, cellphone plans suck in Canada).

You could buy her a cell phone with a full keypad that just happens to have a planner on it. Almost all cell phones have a planner but the problem is with the interface. There are lots of regular phones that just have a few extra buttons to make typing easier.
iPod touch would be pretty classy though I guess. However it is adding crap to her purse, which was the problem with the PDA!

I would say iphone before ipod touch. i think the touch is kind of a waste of money in a lot of ways.
If she's in a contract with her phone company, iphone might not be the best, otherwise i think it'd be a good call! (no pun intended)

I think Blackberries do that kind of thing, but I don't really know, since I don't own one.
I only use my iPod for music so I have no idea if that works.
I'd go with what Brandon said, I've got an LG Rumor and it works fine for helping me remember all my stuff. I don't know, though; if your wife is so busy she fills up her daily planner, a phone might not cut it. You might have to go more heavy-duty.

iPod touch is on sale right now at my local Safeway for 2350 airmiles. I'm going to go with that.
It has a pretty competent calendar app, and easy to use touch screen.
Right now, because of our retarded plan, an iPhone is $600 + a 3 year, $60+/month contract.

a 3 year, $60+/month contract.
Wow wtf? Why do you have to pay 60$ a month if you bought the thing?
I don't know, maybe PHONE SERVICE?

I'm not sure you understand what "phone service" is...no company in their right mind would let you use their voice and data networks at 3G for free...besides, isn't AT&T the only carrier you can use the iPhone on? I'm pretty sure AT&T isn't free anywhere in the world :D
Well, i dunno what "AT&T" is but my phone company is "Cable and Wireless" and the iPhone works with it and I occasionally put money on my phone, like 5 or 10 dollars to call and text peoples :-\...
author=VerifyedRasta link=topic=2641.msg49432#msg49432 date=1228535867That's phone service.
