Couldst I humbly ask thee for direction towards the IRC channel or podcast? I have no clue how to access either.

The proper feed will be part of RMN3 but for now you can get it here. You can still subscribe in iTunes etc.

Do I need some SOFTWARE or anything for this?
For the podcast, you can simply point your browser to the webpage and listen, subscribe, and so forth right in the browser.
For IRC, you usually use a chat client software. I've seen some java-based web ones but I recommend for an IRC client something like mIRC or X-Chat to connect to the server and chat.
