This thread is for discussion, and sharing of videos related to the Where's the Fair Use Movement. The Video above Gives all relevant details, but in essence it's A campaign to try Convince Youtube to refine it's ever-broken Copyright System to align with actual copyright law. So that online content creators, like reviewers and let's players, don't get screwed over like they have in the past.
Let's all band together and try to get this trending on Facebook, Twitter, and other reliant social media to spread the word, the internet stopped SOPA, Now we can fix something that has been broken for a while.
tl;dr: Just share the video and Hashtag on social media,it's for a good cause.

-As a private entity, YT is legally allowed to set whatever hosting policies it wants, regardless of freedoms granted in governmental spaces. Freedom of Speech applies strictly to public spaces, not private ones.
-I do not think that it is particularly profitable for YT to stop catering to ccrporate interests.
-Nostalgia Critic in particular has no room to complain about others monetizing his content or having weird, draconian rules, given the way he and his brother ran TGWTG.

-It is True that freedom of speech May be restricted by corporate entities, that IS One mistake the video makes. However Copyright law(And by extension Fair use) is independent of Freedom of Speech, as it is Law, Not a governmental Right. A private organization is STILL bound by law, as that is a restriction put on society by the government, Rights are a restriction put on the government by society, the difference is minute in theory, but has magnificent impact.
-(Ignoring my above statement of their requirement to follow Fair Use Laws)Is it more in their interest to alienate the userbase which generates their income? just food for thought here...
-Let's apply your logic to another instance to test it. Let's say a former thief's own legitimate property which, for the sake of argument, we are sure was obtained through legal means, was stolen, by your logic the fact that he stole in the past delegitimatizes his desire to be returned his property. Just Because he did the same this same thing in the past does NOT mean He has lost his legal rights, ESPECIALLY if he has seen the err of his ways.
I hope I did carry any spirit of spite with these responses, however I'm very Passionate about this subject, And I did not want to see the discussion of this die down before it even began, I hope you can understand

The legal setup is this:
Copyright law sets forth what one may and may not go to court over.
Removing a video from YT, or changing it so that its monetization goes to a different entity, is NOT going to court.
Literally nothing about US copyright law applies to this situation until someone tries to get the courts involved.

Internet critics of this stripe are so small fry, the small fry think they should be thrown back. The ACTUAL revenue generators tend to be making or aggregating original content, and thus don't give a crap about the policies.
Additionally, there are numerous critics of NC's stripe- many former TGWTGers- who are functioning just fine, having learned the policies and figured out the workarounds. Movie Nights, Phelous, and Cinema Snob are all doing fine.
And, of course, there are alternate options. YT is the most lucrative site due to being basically the Coke of internet videos, but there are others that are less stringent- Todd in the Shadows, for example, hosts a lot of stuff on Vimeo because he gets dinged by YT's music policies.

I'm just saying, of all the people I would trust to be the face of this movement, Doug would be near the bottom of the list.

This IS discussion. You seem to be very unclear about the legal situation and also the impact on the greater community of YT.
While I'd agree that YT's policies are kind of shit, this particular movement is going at things in a really backwards way. (Plus, YT has already been working on changing policies WRT Fair Use.)
Honestly, I've had false claims and I'm a two-bit channel that does an occasional commercial game (no monetising) and RM games. I've had someone persistently claiming a background noise from my Fallout 4 LP, saying it was from a completely different game and there's nothing more annoying that having to wait and worry about getting a strike because you cannot actually talk to a real person about this shit and they take the side of the claimant despite pointing out that they're talking shit and trying to back up your argument with relevant facts and links. It's bullshit.
I've also seen other people's channels - bigger name ones like the Yogscast - who have had to deal with this shit, too. It's no wonder people are turning to streaming instead, because it's complete crap.
One thing I'd definitely like to see is there being actual fucking repercussions for making claims. If we are only allowed to have three claims on the go at once, so too should it be limited for those fuckers, and repercussions for claiming something that isn't yours, as well as an actual dedicated department for checking this shit would be great. Thanks. You know, instead of just ignoring people and locking out countries because of content that doesn't fucking exist in your game that someone else claims does.
Example - my Fallout 4 videos are blocked in Germany because of this one fucker making his fucking claims that aren't even true! AND he's put ads on one of them so that he can MONETISE my fucking content! That is complete bullshit and no-one at youtube fucking gives half a shit about that kind of thing. Sure, let the fucker monetise a video that someone else created, go right ahead fuckwit.
It pisses me off.

Yeah, like I said, YT's policies are super dumb, and need revising. I just don't think approaching it from "Fair use!" is the way to go about it.
I have the feeling that it'd probably take some kind of court case involving wrongful loss of revenue (OK, probably a bunch of them) to get any kind of meaningful change, since as it is, there doesn't seem to be much impetus for YT to change anything; they're not suffering from the shit happening.
