HORROR RPG SAVING POINT IDEAS?

I want to add a feature (feature being save point object) to my game that saves progress (which is called a savepoint, 1:00am where I am so no brain process with first sentence).
I have been rattling my brain on this for awhile and came up with nothing that peaks my interest. From a plan sigil radiating on the ground to a papery object you write in/on, only the sigils sound interesting but not good enough.
Do any of you have an idea for a save point that I can use in any haunted/creepy/abandoned/spooky/scary/terrifying/spoopy/frightening/dark place?
List of examples of locations:
-Abandoned Hospital
-Haunted Forest
-Rundown Amusement Park
-Ghost Town
-Creepy House(s)
-Scary Castle
-Spooky Laboratory
-Dark Sewers
What about a will-o-wisp that has a sigil(s) flashing around itself? (Probably wouldn't work for a house(s)...)
Would even be better if there was a Creepypasta that has a save object as the main focus :3
I honestly want a second opinion on this, please?
EDITTED (3/21/2015-11:28PM):
Okay, so I will need to spill a little more beans on the game. But I do LOVE all of the suggestions so far!
So the main character's are YouTubers (Or yourself if you wish to play as your own custom character) so they maybe against blood loss. (But I keep in my the methods you all proposed)
The game genre (for clarity) is more of a comedy horror (AND RIGHT THERE I NEED YOU TO STOP WHAT YOUR THINKING!) It's not in the sense of "making fun of horror" or "dark comedy" (If I understand dark comedy a bit ) but more so on "using comedy as a tool to lower anxiety during parts that are not so scary then amp horror during the scary parts" (Which getting the 2 in harmony may sound a bit hard).
Not sure if I need to hype so much on its real genre but you can't be too careful, sorry to Caps like that...

Oh! Oh! How about splashing your blood on a wall to 'show I've been here before' type thing? It'd be restricted since you wouldn't want to use too much blood (maybe have a cool down of some sort? Timer?)
Or have your blood activate a pentagram for saving? Like binding yourself to a checkpoint with your life/making a pact with the spirit world?

I think the diary that you write in to save is the most accepted trope in horror gaming and the funny thing is, it works. I'd say a will-o-wisp that has sigils flashing around itself is too much of a distraction. That said, having an ethereal character, such as a will-o-wisp, as a save point might be a good idea as well, if this being plays a part in your story. The Witch's House used a black cat as a save point, which doubly served as an important character in the story. Stray Cat Crossing used a mute character with a polaroid camera, which, surprisingly, is one of the most popular characters in the game. Outside of the horror genre, you've got Final Fantasy obviously, with the use of Moogles as save points. The idea, though, is that this character must be able to teleport through areas with ease, due to either supernatural powers or wings or being part of a race of similar beings set to serve one single purpose. Either way, the save point should be consistent and be able to be used anywhere you need it.
I'd personally just go with a book because I like the idea of "recording" your progress in one.

Possibly a "farfetch'd" idea could be having you read the book when you come back in game like Pokemon Firered and Leafgreen had (See what I did there?). Highlighting only important things though.
Another note to add (Should probably put it into the main post) is that the characters are YouTubers. So a few of them may reject spilling their blood (I know Markiplier would). But a nice mechanic idea none the less @Liberty :3

Horror games should likely have single-use savepoints to prevent camping.
Make a savepoint that explodes into blood after you save there or something.

I think that's a good idea
make a jump scare follow, too. like, there's always a ghost jumping at the screen after the save point explodes, and it cuts your arm off and you start to bleed tomato juice indeterminately.
no, also, Fatal Frame had (magic?) lamps as save points. It was nice, and not even the "safe" rooms were safe. In japan, lamps often take a spiritual meaning, though I cannot describe it since I do not know much. But it tied to the game world and in one of the endings of one of the games you can see many spirits floating to the afterworld, represented by lamps.
This thread makes me think of, oh what was that game? I think it was Psychostatis. Anyway, the save-points were mirrors, and they cracked after being used.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Thriller-type horror games and movies, the ones with axe murderers and zombies, are filled with messages carved into walls or written on the walls in blood. Writing your own would make a good save point.
For a paranormal horror game, with ghosts and voodoo and stuff, you could fill a phylactery with your blood or a fragment of your soul. This is similar to Liberty's ideas. A phylactery is an object used by a Lich into which they put their soul to protect them from death. Voledmort's horcruxes in Harry Potter were phylacteries, for example. (Uh, horcri. Horcrices.)
If your horror game is mostly suspense-type, with shadows and footsteps and secrets, maybe a phone? Pick up the phone, dial 911, and get only an automated response saying that all lines are busy and asking you to please leave a message at the tone. The message represents your saved game.
If you have a sanity-type horror game, with the protagonist losing their grip on reality, then I can't think of anything that isn't way worse than a diary.

A diary that is constantly being re-written (that is, animates to show the text disappearing from the page, then being written over with new text) would be a good idea.
But, yeah, like LockeZ says, it's best to do it based on the story/type of horror game. If your game is about restless spirits that you need to save, maybe make each 'saved' spirit a save point. Base it on the game.

Could you elaborate on this? Is the point to make the save more dire and not being needed to be used carelessly? (Actually that sounds very devious! I like it...) Perhaps after saving somewhere else that save point returns? The game involves backtracking so respawning the save point sounds logical.
@Joseph Seraph
I like the idea of the ghosts jump scaring. Perhaps instead of removing the object, have it become "Haunted" and it scares you if you go back to save at it. That at least earns a few scares, the first time when you learn the mechanic, and others if you forget about the mechanic. But add a randomness to the "Haunted" save point so you don't expect it every single time. Perhaps interrupt you while you're trying to save at it as to "trick" you :3 Very good idea indeed...
Also, thank you for them informity on Lamps, as I am currently finishing watching an LP by Markiplier for the game "Fatal Frame 2"
@Marrend
All I can think of when I read it is Markiplier saying something like "my face was so hideously ugly that everyone died and that now I live in a world that is just a grim reminder of just how ugly I am..."
Do you think I thought like Mark? I AM after all writing some of his dialogue in game (percentage of his dialogue in game is ALL OF IT!)
@LockeZ
That is a lot to think about depending on the type of horror game. Mine would have shadows, murders, ghosts, monsters, and a plethora of other things.
@Liberty
Perhaps have the save screen look like a book and have some kind of text method and animation to wipe the section and rewrite it.

I just realised I may be trying to do thing that your not supposed to do and that is trying to please everyone. Even though I'm trying to cram ideas together, but as I see it if I leave a few out, the mechanic may look generic (someone may not complain) but making it as unique as it can be would be a highlight of the game! (Also that I do love a lot of ideas that can make for a "screaming" and funny good time :P)

In my game memories,the save point was a changing room.A save point I liked was the harp from promise.
List of ideas:
-Notes or a diary(a bit too cliche)
-A plant of some sort(may suit the haunted forest well)
-Safe room
-A shining pipe(may suit the sewers well)
-Ticket stand(may suit the amusement park well)
