Well at least the entire brand/company doesn't seem to be COMPLETELY tanking like with Hudson and a few others, but god. As if EA didn't give me enough reasons to hate them.
The funny thing is that I found out about this while I was playing SimLife after all those years of not discovering DOSbox.
May your llama-loving legacy live on.

EA has shut down Maxis Emeryville, the main Maxis studio and longrunning developer behind SimCity and Spore, among other games. Though the Maxis brand will carry on, the studio that most people knew as "Maxis" is no more.

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

The statement the studio that most people knew as "Maxis" is no more is just an outright lie meant to artificially create outrage, since most people equate Maxis with The Sims. There are still three or four other Maxis studio locations, and the one that closed had no involvement in The Sims.
Wasn't the new SimCity game terrible by all accounts? And Spore was released seven years ago, and the guy who made it left the company six years ago. So I can't say I'm shocked or even really upset at all.
Not sure if this was also the studio that made Darkspore, a game plagued with more problems than the new SimCity, supposedly so bad that EA simply gave up and took the servers down and stopped selling the game only two years after its release.

author=LockeZIt was their original studio location, though. You are right, however, in that the closing of this doesn't outright kill Maxis entirely, and they haven't been involved with The Sims since, like, the second game?

I haven't played the new SimCity, but I did hear that one of the major complaints about it was the DRM bullshit, brokenness of the game at launch beyond DLC, and being vastly inferior to its predecessors. That, and I heard the Sims 4 has actually got some slack too, though I could point out its problems in the trailers for that game, in how it's a massive step backwards from everything the Sims has achieved thus far, so I'm not surprised.
I don't even know why Darkspore was conceived.
