Let me introduce myself,
I was born with the copy of Homam in my crib. I've never been offended by the low resolution of the classic complete edition by the masters of 3DO.
Now, The evil Overlord of Ubisoft made my worst nightmare come true. An HD edition. I hate HD editions. Instead of making something new, they just exploit good old stuff. Where is the promised land of the seventh entry? I haven't heard of it since the initial announcement.
And its just core. Ol' good Restoration of Erathia. They say, they lost expansions. Bollocks!
So the question is partly general and partly about this very product. Do you think this HD edition is even worth your attention? Do you plan on buying it for sake of pitty Steamworks?

Did somebody say Might and Magic!?
To be honest, Heroes of Might and Magic 5 was the most recent game in that series that played, and I don't even play it that often. Though, there is the small anecdote that, the last time I tried to play/install it, I was able to play exactly one session's worth. Afterwords, I kept getting an error message that the disc I was using was not a legit disc. Despite the fact that it was the same disc I used last time? Weird stuff!
Anyway, more to the point. I would tend toward the "nay" side of this equation. Mostly because I'd be perfectly happy with my current copy of Heroes 3 Complete. Also, the only reason I see to get the HD/Steam copy (I keep assuming "Steamworks" means "get in on Steam") is that it would be a more convenient way to play over the 'net. Which I tend to stay way from in regards to Heroes 3. Though, I will also totally admit that most of my fun-factor is in hacking save-files, and using ModHOMM3 to allow Armageddon to deal negative damage (Which is, seriously, where 99% of my fun-factor is).

Why is there no "I wanna go play the original HoMaM 3"-option?
The third is my favorite in the series and an awesome game.
I wonder how it would benefit from HD. I will most likely pass, unless some decent servers come to play on with it. I will continue to worship the third one either way.

I did so.
I played loads of fun from every single entry except the sixth. My computer is kinda getting old to run it and demo I played, by the time it was released, didn't managed to convince me.
Five with both expansions was great and by my opinion in some ways It is better than the legendary three.
But nothing was as fun as playing Hotseat with couple of friends and copy of Heroes 3. I don't know any better use of computer than this is.

I forgot about this one as I was in hurry to start the game.
I feel like I'm missing something when people say Heroes 3 was the bomb, because my jam is totally Heroes 2. Though, one could blame my propensity to hack save files. Heroes 2 was, after all, THE GAME where I saw, first-hand, what a "negative Armageddon" was capable of doing.
*Edit: Also, and maybe it's just me, but, Heroes 3 has a lot more magic-resistant units in it than 2. Like, the Conflux faction that Shadow of Death adds in? That's a really dumb faction for me, since, there's like, maybe, three units that Armageddon affects?

I started on Heroes 2. It was really great back then and It was brilliant when I returned to it few years ago and played couple of scenarios with my sis.
Still Heroes 3 is the one. It's connection to rpgs and balancing added so much.
We had exactly this discussion about Conflux being overpowered with friends. Its the truth. In late phases, they are. Units are resistant and cheap. On the other hand non-upgraded units are weak and lack shooter. And Conflux were meant to be introduced in Armageddon's Blade. It does make sense having resistant units in campaign filled with the spell.
