THE 'NOTICES' ISN'T MAKING A LOT OF SENSE SOMETIMES.

Just...what is the algorithm that determines what someone gets 'notified' with? Sometimes it's all over the place; old stuff is in my notices, new stuff is gone, sometimes things don't show up, etc etc. It's been (or always was?) kinda wonky and I just want to put it out there.
I believe it's whatever you've subscribed to. Check your subscriptions to see more details, but it should be based on them.
Any time there's an update, when a new demo is added, a new post, a new image added... basically any update works. That said, there are options as to what you want to be notified for.
Oh, and sometimes if you look on your Notices page if you have a lot of them (like pages worth) then you might get notices of those, even though they should be marked as read. Hitting the Mark All as Read works to get rid of them.

Yes, I know how it's supposed to work, and it does that sometimes. The issue is;
1. Sometimes old stuff shows up in my Notices.
2. Sometimes new stuff disappears and reappears.
3. Sometimes things just don't show up.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

You talking about unread notices, or the longer list of archived notices that appears when you actually click on the Notices button? I've noticed that the way old notices are pruned can be somewhat random, though as long as they're unread I think they stay forever (maybe).
Notices also really don't like it when you use multiple tabs. If a notice is read in one tab and unread in another tab, doing anything at all in the second tab can make it become unread for you again. And right-clicking a notice to open it in a new tab just doesn't work - it stays unread in both tabs.
I've never had anything just not show up... as far as I'm aware.

I'd say the most annoying aspect about notices is that it doesn't discern whether every new post is related to a single thread or not. Clicking a notice for a single post within a thread only marks that post as "read." Meanwhile, you are reading every other post that goes on and the notice system doesn't mark any of those other comments as "read," you you have to clear all those extra notices afterwards.
I generally open one notice in a new tab, for each topic/game, read everything, then mark all as read. Why bother marking each as read? Even if you hit mark all as read, you can still go into your notices and click on the ones you haven't read yet.

That's what I tend to do (except with Mafia games, where I will keep the oldest one and trim all the rest down).
Okay, prime example; I'm recieving Notices for this topic, yes? When Liberty posted her post, my notices said (6), along with the normal 'Liberty made a post in X' topic. Now it just says 5 with no mention of Liberty's post at all.
Hmm, I think kentona or ankylo might be interested at taking a look or explaining the code logic behind it.

What is 'it' when you say 'it just says 5'? The droplist? The droplist only shows up to 10 most recent unread notices.
What is flaky though is sometimes a notice doesn't properly get flagged as 'read', so sometimes old notices linger. The 'Mark All As Read' will clear those off of your dropdown. If you click Notices and go to your full list, it will have all read and unread notices in order of most recent.

author=Feldschlacht IVDid you click her notice to get to this topic? That is what is supposed to happen when you do that.

The notice bar seems to have changed recently. It used to only update when you reload a new page, now it will update on it's own if you have a page open. So previous issues with tabbed browsing are likely non-existent any more.

Tabbed browsing issues are still totally a thing, sadly.
^That^
Currently I'm using it to my benefit by tabbing the ones I want to reply to at a later date so they don't disappear and keep on as a present reminder to "Fucking answer this soon!!!" XD

As to your question, sometimes people like to leave certain stuff until later to check on. Thus, removing some from the list helps keep track of what to check out later.

Actually it's a bot. It just quotes someone else from earlier in the thread (in this case Link_2112)
