[RM2K3] WALK ON WATER

Posts

Pages: 1
For some reason my chipset is playing up the upper layer seems to be fine but the lower seems totally useless walking on water and mountain climbing. I have looked at the post called "Chipset handling" for about a day going over the Database Tileset then Editing Mode (4) but still can't find nothing wrong with it. I have even tried re installing the game but saving my project. I have link here so you can have a look at the Tileset the only thing that I can think it being is what is circled in red.
Thank you in advanced.

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Well, a picture of the tileset in that form tells us nothing, since the passability of the tiles has nothing to do with the image file, you have to set it in the database. Go to the Tileset tab of the database, find your tileset, and click the Passability button to show the passabilities of the tiles. Does it look like you think it's supposed to? If so take a screenshot of that and post it here.
I tried to make a screenshot but had no luck so I had to do it the hard way, once again here is the link for the PNG file. The "S" is for the star mode. Hope this helps.
Kind Regards.

Alrighty then. I'm not seeing the second image, here. I'm going to follow LockeZ's line of reasoning here and suggest you go into your database and check the tileset there. Select passability and make sure your water tile and mountain tiles have Xs instead of Os. If they do and you can still walk on water and scale mountains (I've had that glitch before on RM2K3), then here's what you can do instead of having to move everything over to a new project: for your upper level, select an empty tile to X, and everything you don't want your sprite to walk over, cover it with that empty upper tile; walls, water, mountains, whatever.

Taking a screenshot isn't that hard... you press the Prnt Scn key on your keyboard and then paste it into MS Paint, or you use the Clipping Tool that's in the Windows Vista/7 start menu.

Anyway! The Xs and Os seem fine. But you've got a lot of blank tiles in your upper layer. Make sure that you're not using them anywhere on the map. If you have mountains on the lower layer, but the upper layer is using any invisible tile other than the top-left corner one (which must always be blank), the passability will be the upper layer. All your extra blank upper layer tiles are marked as O, so if you draw them on the map, it will change the tiles you draw them on to passable (invisibly, since the tiles are blank).

If that doesn't solve your problem, then it might be something caused by an event.
Ok I have xp pressed ALT+PRINT SCREEN as windows told me to do did nothing thou....Any way will cut and passed both the last two replies and work on it, will let you know how I go.
Kind Regards.
It doesn't matter what OS you have as long as it's a Windows machine. There should be a button on your keyboard called Prt Scn/SysRq. It's right next to the F12 button. Press it when you want to take an image then head into any image program (like paint) and PASTE. Make sure you don't do any copy or cut before that.
Then trim the image down to just the screenshot itself, save it as a png file then use imgur.com to host it. A few links will show up on the side. Choose either the one with img tags or just the one that ends in .png then past that link here.

You want CTRL + Prt Scn.
You only need to press the PrtSc button. Pressing CTRL + PrtSn does the same function as pressing the PrtSc button alone. It captures the entire screen. ALT + PrtSn takes a screen of only the currently selected window. In new versions of Windows you can press Windows key + PrtSc and it will automatically save it as a file in the user's Pictures folder.

If none of them are working, and you are on a laptop, it's probably because PrtSc is a secondary, or tertiary, command of that key. I need to press Fn + End, because PrtSn is written in smaller text on that key.
Look, without an image to tell us what is going on, this is the most likely reason you're having that issue.

Press the red, then make sure the tile you want (in the blue area) is X by clicking on it a few times (you'll get O which allows walking on, X which doesn't and SQUARE which makes it a roof tile). Then click either Okay or Apply in the orange.

If that isn't the issue it might be that you've used an invisible upper tile on top of the water tile. Just grab the top-left empty image in your upper tiles and go over the water with it. Any other empty tile will mess it up unless set to X.

SQUARE which makes it a roof tile

I seem to recall the square being a counter tile. If an event is standing behind a counter tile, you can talk to the tile and it's acts as though you're talking to the event behind it.
Nah, Square does roof tiles (you know, allowing one tile overlap then blockage). You're thinking upper layer diangle. Uh, diamond. In the top level star is overhead and diamond is counter tile, but on the bottom layer, square is for roof tiles (but only for autotiles) and star is for non-autotile overhead. ^.^
Thanks everyone for your help I seem to have found the problem. As all my upper blank pink tile was set to passability I started to change them one at a time until half way through I hit one and my character could not move. Anyway as I had just started I decided to delete the whole project and start again this time using a tile set that that looked good for me to use. Simply just copy and paste to the new tile set and OH HAPPY DAYS it worked. Pianotm I guess as you had a glitch I to had one, Liberty thanks for the screen shot tips tried it already and it works fine will cut and paste your reply for the link info. And to the rest once gain THANK YOU.
Just as a last piece of useless info it would of been the year 2002 the last time I worked with RM2K and that was a massive game I built but silly me I deleted all the files and especially all the topic help files I saved. looks like now I have to hunt them all down again.
