HOW DO YOU GET TO SIMILAR GAMES?

Hey guys
Just wondering how do you get to the "similar games" playlist for a game? I just want to be able to explore games that are similar to the game that my page is on.
If there's no such thing (I think there's one for playlists but i can only add it to my playlist once) then there should be one imo. But yeah, I think it'd make games really easy to navigate.
Cheers

The ones you see on game pages are made by the game creators themselves. The closest one that is actually automated would be clicking the genre tags on the game page of the game. There's... really not any other ways. And I can't think of a way to actually automate it at all without just comparing similar genres/types and then producing a list (which you can do in the game search area anyway) - since there's no telling whether one game is like another without actually playing them (which a site cannot do)... tags are the only real way.
That said, personalised tagging might be cool, like on tumblr, twitter and steam.
I guess one idea could be a small showcase somewhere on a game page (maybe an optional tab?) of other games that share the same genre/type tags. Dunno that it would be feasible, but it's a thought.

Thing is, how can the site calculate that aside from checking what games you've downloaded before? And how far into the past of your account would it go? Would it check by x people that downloaded this game also downloaded that game? But that doesn't necessarily mean that those games are similar - I don't know about others but I play all kinds of games that are very different (I mean, I was doing the Catalogue which meant I downloaded a shit ton of games. I should really get back on that.) so how would "People who played/enjoyed this game also played X" mean they were alike? >.<;
There's probably a simple answer somewhere. XD

What CashmereCat is referring to is the already implemented "people who put this on their playlist also played .."-page after you put something on your - who would've known - playlist, isn't it?
It isn't always accurate, but it hits pretty often.
If you could show that somewhere else (without needing to put it on your playlist again), that'd be cool indeed.

Yes, something like, 'people who playlisted this, playlisted these' on the game page without you having to actually playlist the game. It is then based on other users aggregate opinions, but it's better than nothing.
ATM I tend to be a bit of a stalker in that if someone makes a comment on a game I enjoy stating that they also do so, I'll have a look at their recent posts to see what else they enjoyed and look at those games, working from the possibly erroneous assumption that if they liked something I did, they may lead me to something I don't know that I will also like.
It doesn't always work, but I'd say I get a 40/60 hit rate.

I'll see what I can do about using the "people who put this on their playlist also played" list on game pages. I still need to take another run at that algorithm to speed it up some. Hey, if I get enough time to work on it, it might even make it in this weekend!
Yeah sorry. I never ever got around to adding that "This game is also on the following playlists, go check them out" thing to gameprofiles.
Dailymotion used to have something like that (they have since turfed it the fuckers). It was super helpful in finding similar videos/music because you'd get to see what other REAL people added the video to playlists of theirs and then you could check out their playlists and usually find similar and interesting things. (This is where I got the idea from btw). Raising the visibility of playlists is near the top of my (neglected) TODO list for RMN.

Oh OK cool I like the way you guys think. It's nice to think that that feature is in the pipeworks, even if it's a little while away. Cheers to the developers/admin/mods!
