I'm naturally not suggesting anyone drop RMN, because that assumption is le dumbé.
Nope. Instead, I'm looking for some nakama to join me over on Bon Voyage, an One Piece role-play forum.
I have been craving RP for awhile now... This site, Bon Voyage seems pretty well set up. So, if you're wondering why not just start a RP here, it's as simple as 'if it's built, why rebuild it?' Plus I'm sure flooding Welp Welp with a ton of Island threads and other garbage would be more annoying than the Mafia craze!

-Dudesoft, is Taiko the musician/Drummer, Capoeira brawler, and maybe Captain? Doesn't matter, really. HECK YEAH!
-Liberty, possibly a Devil Fruit user/Sniper/Doctor named Neya.
-MirrorMasq, is a cook named Sasori
-CyberDagger is ---BUSY!
-bluemonke1, is Jaycobb, a gun expert/Marksman/gunslinger. Also tries to be captain but doesn't have the crew support Taiko may has. Lol we've decided to constantly fight over the role. Like, flag design, destinations, decisions etc. could be really funny.

We'll need a cook, navigator and a shipwright to round off the crew. Other professions would be cool too, but those are the essentials, and we don't want a giant group or the RP would be bogged down!

If interested post here, let me know what you're thinking. If curious about the story you'd be involved in...

Taiko (me) is trying to find a treasure from an unnamed map, become a famous drummer, and secretly find some friends that won't leave him.
Neya (Libby's tentative character idea?) is trying to find a family member to tell them something important. Family secrets~!
MirrorMasq is

You would need to join their forum obviously, and in your time, post a character sheet for acceptance there. (If you need help, let me know. I've pretty much figured their borderline random forum out.)
Sign me up as a cook. Will think about actual character later.

Alright! You'll need the hassle of signing up to their forum. When you've got your character planned, it needs to be approved by their mods. The process is slow, but we can't exactly start right away anyway!
I would, but I'm afraid I'm not too familiar with the setting. I'm afraid I migh accidentally break the universe.
That's why all you do will be monitored by a RP staff. They won't let you break anything. :)

Also, Dudesoft, you're either a captain or not. I don't want a "doesn't matter" captain. I would kill him and take his place. So go on ahead and add some enthusiasm. :D

Also, here's my character:

Hahaha... Alright. My character would defend his nakama with his life, I think; and he's determined. Captain it is!

Masq did you sign up to their site? Also, slick kid. Reminds me of Killua from HunterxHunter, except he's a cook!

The universe is pretty easy to understand. It's the golden age of pirates in a fantasy land. The world is divided down the middle by a body of water littered with random islands called the Grand Line. Pirates are motivated to find the One Piece at the end of it all, in a second area down Grand Line called the New World.
The Grand Line/New World are surrounded by four other oceans; East Blue, North Blue, West Blue and South Blue. Separating the Blues feom the Grand Line are 'Calm Belts' which are full of giant sea monsters called Sea Kings.
Easy right?
Making it a little complicated is there are Marines / World Government that rules the land in the name of Justice, but they are typically seedy and evil. They place bounties on pirate's heads. The high-ranking officera are incredibly powerful and usually are Devil Fruit users.
Devil Fruits: these are mystical fruit that grant the eater a super power. There's a bunch of types. The downside to eating a Devil Fruit is that you become a hammer in the ocean; you are paralysed by sea water and cannot move/drown.

That's One Piece in a nutshell. I don't plan on interfering with the plot of the Manga at all. I'd rather visit the user-made islands for the most part, and have a new adventure.
Yes, I even started a character topic. Sasori is a name. Though it's empty yet, I'll complete it later.
I didn't really wanted my character to look like a kid, but there isn't much male face generators anime-style out there. I've used first one I found. =_=
Okay. Once I unbusy myself I'll go read all the rules.

Mirror, no sweat! Tell me what you want him to look like. I can do some design work / draw it for you!
Nevermind, found it! Looks fantastic! He'll be a blast to draw!
Hey wait, you don't know about his weapon yet. :D
I'm thinking of making a gun expert. Possibly ex-marine. Is skilled with all kinds of guns but prefers dual pistols. Does all kinds of crazy stunts by intentionally ricocheting bullets with great precision. Searching for a gun maker rumured to have discovered how to make a gun that can kill anything, even a god.

Sounds good?

It does sound good, except that it's an exact copy of another guy who is apparently joining! XD!!
He's ex-marine, dual pistol, etc! Bwahaha... Sorry, les terribles.
Jaycobb is his name. Here's his profile: Jaycobb!

Speaking of Jaycobb, we've been talking, and I think our crew will be Revolutionaries. Two reason; we have a reason to fight for justice, as well as marines - and the Revolutionary population on Bon Voyage is 3. Compared to the rest, that's terrible. Let's change the world!
so what's your favourite episode of one piece

mine is the one where my original character meets luffy and luffy is impressed by how cool he is and lets him drive the ship
I don't know much about One Piece revolutonary, so my character will be like "I don't care about revolution, I'm just tagging along with those cool guys"...

Really? I hate that episode. Your character was such a dick.

MirrorMasq you have yourself listed as Pirate Cook, it totally works.
As for Revolutionary, I am still researching it. Nothing has really been announced on it. As long as we're trying to break down the injustice in the world, we're fine.
For starters, we're targeting those backroom Casino deals and corruption on that Aiyata or whatever island my guy starts on. I think every island listed has a problem we can solve, if not we can make something up.

Well, crap! I hate when this happens. And I was really looking forward to putting this character to use...

I could change some things around, and end up with a character that is similar yet with differences that could be played up. Those small contrasts, if focused on, could be used intrestingly. While my character prefers pistols, he's a generalist. (And those pistols were supposed to be semi-automatics from the start, which can contrast with Jaycobb's revolvers.) I could drop the past in the marines (though I wonder where the military training would come from then), drop a bit of the trick shot theming and focus more on the Woo-esque gun fu, perhaps change the weapon of choice from pistols to SMGs. (Though I like the pistols. I could play up the generalist side a bit more, though.) I could even tone down the dual wielding and have him fight only with just his main gun, only pulling out the secondary in particularily stressful situations.

Basically, I'm playing up the contrast between a western style gunslinger and a martial artist with guns in the style of heroic bloodshed films. And awesome could very well ensue iss they find themselves fighting back to back.

If that doeasn't work out, there's always the mercenary with huge sword and mecha-man (imagine a Gundam in human form) concepts that lost to this one. I could choose one of them and work it up a bit more.
(realtalk I might be into this a bit later on if I have the time)

(I don't dig on much anime but out of those I do one piece is probably one of my favourites, even though I'm not that far in right now)

(if people on this forum are keeping the whole playful style of the show's character design in mind, then that sounds like something pretty neat to be involved in. I've been doing some pbp tabletop stuff lately, and it's fun so far, so I figure I can give something like this a shot.)

@mawk: I totally plan on playing up the comedy and melodrama. I simply cannot imagine One Piece as super serious...

@CyberDagger, regardless of your style, it'd be really handy if you take up one of those jobs I posted up top. Maybe it will inspire a character tweak!
Also, consider the growth potential for a gunslinger. The more powerful you get will not necessarily reflect in your abilities. Like my guy can get stronger, faster and more skilled at Capoeira fighting. Whereas Jaycobb's gunslinger is reliant on equipment.
Swords can be over dramatised to do like wind slashes that blow apart buildings later on. A gun shoots a bullet. Bullets can only do so much!
Mind you---if you did have a gunslinger and later ate a Devil Fruit / gained a super power... The way you'd use that super power would be augmented greatly to suit your character...

Example:
Taiko (me) could take the Needle-Needle power ( power to produce needles from body). Taiko would use kicks to hurl the needles around him.
Your guy would probably be more like, thrust your arm forward and shoot a needle from your finger.
It is minor in that example...
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Having never watched the show or read the manga, all I really got out of the setting description above was "pirates, looking for an ultimate treasure, but with superpowers." So I don't really have a handle on how serious/wacky the setting is. If I were to make a character, which ones of the following would be appropriate for the setting, if any?

- Pudgy balding man who crossdresses as a mermaid, and considers himself a mermaid at heart who was stuck in the wrong body, like the pirate version of a furry/otherkin
- 10 year old girl, ran away from home into a life of piracy, overcompensates for her age and gender by acting like an extremely ruthless killer
- Bronzepunk enthusiast, creates machinery with bronze age sensibilities and designs but contemporary (for the pirate era) functionality, speaks with an affected and historically incorrect bronze age method of speech, basically the 1700s equivalent of steampunk
- None of the above, geez Locke, just make a normal freaking character
those should all work pretty well. my impression of one piece so far is that it manages a pretty broad range of tones, and the same goes for the characters. a lot of effort goes into making pretty much anyone with a speaking role distinct in some way or other, so as long as you can manage some kind of "hook" they should fit in pretty well. there are funny weirdos and there are complete assholes, and then there's pretty much everything in between. just don't make a half-demon misanthrope with a haunted past and you should be good.

that's just going by the canon, anyway. I'm not sure if the forum proper and their OCs are as good as the canon characters, or if they're terrible and maudlin in the way that most anime OCs are. I haven't really looked, to be honest.

I guess you get to find out!
