[2K3] SPRITE LIMIT?

So I'm noticing that the RTP sprites I originally had (never got rid of them) are slowly disappearing the more sprites I add into my Monsters folder. Is there a limit to how many sprites 2k3 can hold for monsters? I ask this since I have a LOT of different enemies, and it'd be a pain to not be able to use them because their sprites are no longer there (though I think they ARE there, just inaccessible...). I don't know if normal 2k3 does this, but I know it does this in 2K9 Ultimate...
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Um, I suspect you're just adding custom sprites with the same filenames as the RTP sprites, so the RTP ones don't show up any more. They have pretty generic names like dragon.png and knight.png, so not surprising.
Unless you have over a thousand monsters, I doubt you're hitting any sort of limit. But maybe? If you're hitting a limit, it would have to be 999 or 1023. But I think the limit, if there even is one, is much higher than that (65535 would be my first guess). The reason I think this is because I've never heard of anyone hitting it.

I only have 269 unique sprites in here (more to come. I realize I have a LOT of enemies and bosses in this game), so that can't be it at all then. I know none of them use the same names though...I'm PRETTY sure none of them uses the same name anyways o_o;;
For instance, one that I noticed was Odin disappeared from the list (the default Odin), when I never put in anything FOR a new Odin so...

Is he still in the RTP folder if you look at it in Windows Explorer? It should be in C:\Program Files\Enterbrain\RPG Maker 2003\RTP\Monsters\ or maybe C:\Program Files(x86)\RPG Maker 2003\RTP\Monsters\
Yeah, he's there, as well as the Rakashimi which I was using for a boss, which vanished off the list too (of course, this was reverted because data got lost cuz computer, but it still happened).
Alright, so I just checked this myself. Checked to see that Sorcerer was the last thing in the database before adding in a new sprite, and then Sorcerer is no longer accessible despite no new files NAMED Sorcerer was added and I didn't delete it. So yeah...I'm not sure what's going on. @_@;
EDIT - I'm thinking it's chopping off RTP stuff because the root RTP folder isn't with this folder...yet it's letting me use RTP stuff here anyways. Hmmmm.

Sorcerer is far from the end of the alphabet. I find it hard to believe you have 269 enemy images and none of them have names that start with letters after S. I suspect it's also cutting off some of your custom images, and the limit is probably 255.
However, try this. Make an enemy that uses the last graphic in the list. Then add a new graphic, so that the last one gets bumped off the list. And then check to see if the enemy you made still works. If so, try something else: add a new monster graphic with a filename that starts with the letter z, and check to see if it shows up in the list.
It's very possible that even though it's not listing the file in the database, it's still able to use it in the game. You would just need to start giving all your new enemy graphics filenames that start with underscores from now on, to make sure anything new you add isn't instantly pushed off the end of the list by old stuff.

Well, I won't know by adding anymore monsters until all of the RTP monsters are bumped off the list, but I do know that the last monster graphic I used still worked even though it was bumped off the list. The database lists all imported non-RTP monsters and then the RTP monsters, so I don't know if it's just the RTP monsters being bumped off or what.
So yeah...there's that...

If there is a limit I haven't hit it yet. One of my projects has become a dumping ground of resources and has nearly 3500 monsters in its folder.
If you had a restore/data loss on the computer I would assume that it is a computer problem (most likely hard drive). If you don't have a backup on a separate hard drive I'd try taking your current project and copying it onto another hard drive, adding monsters and checking to see if it still has the same issue.

Can you see all of those monster images in the database when choosing a graphic for a monster, bob? Or just the first 256?
As a quick test, try downloading the RPG Maker 2009 Ultimate (an addon for 2k3) from http://cherrytree.at/ultimate and test with it (it uses a different method to enumerate the files, because it also supports subfolders).
