(SOLVED)
So, since I'm completely computer illiterate, I would like to know how to add transparency to the background of my charsets. And don't just do it for me--I want to learn how so I'm not bothering you guys with something this stupid again.

Anything that isn't the shadow thing needs to be transparent.

It depends on what graphic editor you are using.
MS Paint doesn't support transparency.
If you are using something that supports layers, the easiest way is to make a layer with your character, and delete all the other layers. The default lack of background for most of these applications is usually transparency.
Alternatively, you can use the Import feature in vxAce and when prompted, left-click on the colour you want to be transparent (and if you want, right-click on a colour you want to be semi-transparent.)
