In the long run, the universe will probably either fade into entropy or contract into a superdense cluster again. I doubt VR would survive either circumstance.

Do you think VR will fall out of the gaming industry eventually, and we'll just be using controllers again?
I don't think it'll last. The equipment you need to make it work is basically insurmountable for large swaths of the population. Not everybody has $lots to burn on fancy headsets, whatever you need to be able to turn and look around without walking into a wall, and the space to house all this stuff. Plus it also kills part of the commune of playing games together, either local coop or simply watching (although I suppose the move to all online gaming has done a huge number on local coop, not that it's too surprising. Being able to play with friends at any time is great after all).

Basically VR will remain a neat novelty with people who have the money and space to make it work but it won't draw the crowds required for your regular A+++ blockbuster game to sell enough to be considered successful.

Given how there are virtually no VR games, and all of the ones that have come out so far have been commercial catastrophes, I don't think VR ever even took off to begin with.
I've played a couple of VR games and they're pretty cool (Windlands will make you dizzy but you really feel like you're spiderman and it's cool shit!).

I think VR is a stepping stone currently. It'll be revised a few times before it becomes a more common feature in homes. They need to work on various aspects for it but I think it will have a lasting effect on future gaming.

Whether that means it's current rendition will stick around is another thing, but parts of it will still exist as we step into the Virtual Reality gaming world and technology gets better.

^^ this.
It'll remain a niche product. Likely will stay a while, but won't have a huge gamechanging impact any time soon.

I think it's just a gimmick. Perhaps someday in the future, it could be something more, but I don't think we're there yet.

Seriouspost, I'm with Jim on this one:
It'll probably end up like 3D cinema. Popular for a few years, disappears and then comes back again. Rinse and repeat till the end of time.

1996: Virtual Reality!
2001: Back to using controllers.
2006: Motion Controls!
2011: Back to using controllers.
2016: Virtual Reality again!

Not until VR becomes an integral aspect of gameplay rather than just a gimmick.
Yes, but not for gaming.

Perhaps you're right, but I still won't be interested.

Personally, I'll be more interested in the Playstation 100, assuming I'll be around then.

I understand VR POV porn is pretty intense.
