Isn't it great when one small change to a mechanic breaks your entire game's balance?

I decided to do a random test with high level characters for Prayer of the Faithless and uncovered a pretty big design flaw mid to late game. I fixed that flaw by making a simple change to how skill costs work. Unfortunately, that little change BROKE EVERY SEMBLANCE OF BALANCE I had going on with the game and now need to go back and readjust everything. Again.

Basically, this is a perfect encapsulation of the incident and my response to it:

I find that happens to me when I mess with healing skills or items or any recovery type in my survival games. Smart players will find a way to abuse it lol

This is why my analysis of Soul Sunder ending up being so lengthy, because it was clear that a true fix would end up being stupidly complex, which I have a lot of sympathy for. I try to keep my systems simple enough that this won't be the case and, even then, things still got away from me towards the end of Sore Losers...

And I'm absolutely grateful for that level of detail! I took it to heart when designing PotF, like hard caps on items and removal of pointless gimmicks. I'm not nearly as upset at this as I feel like I should be, though. Thankfully, the problem was discovered now rather than near the end. Adjusting it isn't as hard as I initially thought, and the game is much better off because of it.

Lesson learned: take the time to put your characters at higher levels and try out some battles. What would work for early game may not necessarily work for mid to late game, haha.

Ah, my comrade in suffering! PotF is also a survival game, so I can totally relate.
