A Slew Of Updates... And What's Next!
There's been a lot going on with Sore Losers: Riot Grrrl over the last couple of months, so this is a bit of a cluster-fuck of updates sourced from a bunch of different posts I've made recently. Hopefully it will all make sense once I'm done!
So Jelly! Wraps up!
The end of the summer review event has arrived, and the final results are posted. Did you collect all the jellies? Did you read all 120 reviews? I sure didn't.
SM4SH with RMN
Now that Super Smash Bros for Wii U has a tourney mode, the handful of people who both own a Wii U and Smash Bros and who browse on RMN are organizing a pair of tournaments: For Hyrule (all Ganon all the time) and For Makerscore (a competitive tournament). Join now!
Nature of the Beast
I wanted to wait a bit longer before writing this next blog to keep from pumping out too much info at once, but the initial reaction to this has been so unexpectedly awesome that my motivation has rocketed higher than it has been since January when I started working on it! I've been blasting through tasks that normally take me an entire day's work to do, and I've made SO MUCH progress that it's insane!
Building RPG Maker Events Challenge!
Deep within the panic of IGMC, I came to realize that other than within the throes of gam mak, developing a game, we don't really have ways to practice Game Design and building events. So I thought of this challenge as an idea!

Join in the fun and see if you have what it takes to complete the various eventing challenges presented - and maybe learn a few things while you're at it!
So Jelly! Week 3
And now week 3 is nearly complete! The theme is Red Pepper Jelly and you have less than day left to review a game to win a Red Pepper Jelly achievement worth 15 makerscore. The deadline is July 20th.

Game Length and Maintaining Player Interest

So, game length.

Why do people feel like they need to make games longer than a full day? Should most games even need to take more than a single afternoon? What can devs do to better wrangle their scope creep? In a similar vein, how do you maintain player interest in the starting levels?

Have an opinion? Share it, and check out others' opinions on the subject, too!
So Jelly! Week 2
Week 2 is nearly complete. The theme for week 2 is Grape Jelly and you have 1 day left to review a game to win a Grape Jelly achievement worth 15 makerscore. The deadline is July 13th.

Engalia: The Wager - New Version Added
I've added a new download for this game. Most of the changes made are aimed at balancing the battles so that they're more difficult than they were in the previous version, but there also some other changes thrown in for good measure. Most of the changes that I was hoping to make are discussed in this blog-post, but I'll give a quick run-down of the changes here.
Her Nightmare: Rage Quit Review
With the term rage quit in its name, you'd think this game was either an online multiplayer first person shooter with a lousy, toxic community, or something born of of a kaizo mario hack. This game falls under the later, but only to a very small degree.
Think Before You Remake...

Ever since that glorious day at E3 2015 when Square-Enix showed off to the what seemingly impossible and ended up announcing a remake to one of their most beloved RPG’s of all time in Final Fantasy VII for the upcoming PlayStation 4, everybody lately around here has been caught up in something that I like to call “Remake Fever”...

Instat Out
The latest round of statistics are up and ready for your joy, disgust, sadness, fear and anger. (We are regular Emotion Lords here 'round these parts!)

2401 games now with a download ready for you to play! I hope you're not busy. Final Fantasy: Legend of Balance far and away generated the most discussion last month.

Ethereal Escape - What's going on?
Welp, since I've only ever made one, I thought I'd put together another little blog post to talk about what I've been working on.

Graphics
As you know, I was nearly finished with the demo when I decided to give the game a graphical overhaul. Although it's coming along slowly, I feel it was very much worth it. I am so much more satisfied with the aesthetic of the game, and therefore more motivated than ever to work on it. I feel like it's all finally coming together.

So Jelly! Week 1
The theme for week 1 has been revealed: Apple Jelly. Review a game this week to win an Apple Jelly achievement worth 15 makerscore. The deadline is July 6th.

A PLEA: DON'T MAKE YOUR FIRST GAME A TEAM GAME

Hello everyone! A common occurrence I see around RMN a lot is the "Newbie Looking for Team" thread (And not specifically wanting to join an existing team, either). Instead, they have this great idea for a game, but have never made one before, and they want people to step up and volunteer to do all the things they aren't good at yet, usually asking for a composer, a spriter, an artist, a mapper, and sometimes a writer, too.

These threads almost always ultimately fail, with no one stepping up to volunteer their services. Why is that?
SNEWS #24
A newsletter - RM2k3, store, SoS, MOG, Backlog, perceptions, Unreal, Unity, unity

Summer is right around the corner... and here I am stuck inside writing a newsletter for a small niche community in the shady corner of the internets. C'est la vie.
Best of Blogs
This is a new series of bi-monthly articles to show off the best blogs that I've seen over the course of a fortnight.

Often, when searching for a blog, article or review to show off in the What's Written spot, I'll find that there is a lot of great content on the site.
Usually I have to pick just one thing to show and I try to make choices that exclude those games which already have high traffic or aren't quite as interesting as others. This is a pity, because in the blog area, particularly, there's a lot of great stuff put out that doesn't get seen. Thus, I decided that this series of articles needed to be made.
