It's not bad but..

This is one of these games where I feel so split in my review. The game is working and the puzzles shows that some care went into the process of making it. But there are a lot holding this game back as well. Let's have a gander, shall we?

First of all, let's get the story out of the way. It is basic. I wouldn't say that it is anything mind blowing and the twist for the good ending was something I could see from a mile away. However I can not call the story bad either, it has some thought put into it so I guess I'll just have to call it basic. Not bad but not exactly mind blowing either.

And now my main problem with this game. The maps. My holy Freja on a pancake, the maps! I don't know how used the maker is to the engine but these maps are, quite frankly and without sugar coating it, terrible. They are way too big. They don't need to be that big. Most of the maps are around the size that, in real life, would be a theatre stage at a grand opera and there's so much empty space. I understand that some would say it is a big place and yes, that is true, but there is no reason for a room, with just a piano in it, to be the size of the Champs-Élysées. Really, most of these maps could have been cut in size and some variety to the rooms other than "enormous rectangle" would have been much needed. And the woods could certainly have used at least some trees to not look simply like a big green rug.

As for the characters, there's not much to say. We don't really know much bout our main lead and why he stumbled upon this grand adventure and there is no further development. A little tip from me to the developer, make the comments for things you click on a tad more personal, that can aid in letting people get a hum on what sort of character this is. For example: if checking a painting, instead of simply saying "it's a painting", perhaps have the character add a comment on how he does not care for art or the contrary, that he really adores classical art pieces. It can ease people into getting to know a character without spewing exposition, specially in a game like this where there's no room for that sort of development.

The puzzles are actually simple and satisfying. Some of them are rather clever and makes you think twice about what you're going to chose. There was only one part of a puzzle that didn't make any sense to me but I'll leave that one out since it is a spoiler towards the good ending. All in all, the work on the puzzles were just great!

All in all, this game is not terrible by any standards but it could have used much more polish in the execution. The puzzles work just fine and the story, while a little predictable, is also satisfying. What needed working was the presentation. I would actually adore to see this game with reworked maps because I think that could be a real gem!
