I can't say enough how much I love this game!

I first played this game about two or three years ago and I absolutely loved it! And because my birthday was last week, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to review this game.

First Impressions
Aside from the well-used pretitle events, the title screen is used very innovatively. It shows a portion of the game’s premise and plays around nicely with the “new game”, “continue” and “shutdown” options. The premise is even further elaborated upon through the use of relatively dark music, signalling the tragic events taking place.

Once in the game, we start off with a typical murder mystery introduction of the victim’s death, concluded in a very nice fashion with the game’s title. Soon enough, we find ourselves as the amnesiac detective at the crime scene. After getting some information from the landlady, we’re off to find clues and question the suspects!

Gameplay
The gameplay is pretty much the same way I envisioned when I started making detective games with RPG Maker. Using the Items section to store clues and walking around interacting with the environment to search for them. Showing clues to people is a very useful mechanic, but it has one flaw: you can’t keep track of what you’ve already shown to people.

This immediately brings up the other point that keeping track of areas you have and haven’t examined is pretty tough. I got stuck several times not being sure what I had missed.

Returning to basic gameplay mechanics, I found that a ton of tables and plants weren’t placed in great places. It’s a nice gimmick to have the different transfer events that move you from A to B line up nicely, but it’s kind of weird to place a table right in front of one such event’s “drop off point”.
