Dragon Warrior Classic is a Dragon Warrior fan-game created on RPG Maker VX that harkens back to the original NES Dragon Warrior. This game uses the graphics and styles of the original Dragon Warrior and features a completely original soundtrack and original monsters!

The goal of this game is to attempt to transport the player back to the old school Dragon Warrior days on the original Nintendo. I have, to the best of my ability, attempted to recreate the look, sounds and music, and feel of the original Dragon Warrior released in 1989.

STORY:

Centuries ago the ancient and powerful Wizards ruled the lands. Then the evil Lord Devmin stole the sacred Divine Sceptre and began his rebellion, destroying the powerful civilization. Now his sights are on complete domination, with the human race facing the same fate. You are the last hope the human race has against the powerful Lord Devmin.

(When you finish off Lord Devmin in battle, check out Dragon Warrior Classic 2!)

Ohh cool! This looks pretty amazing. Hopefully this gets finished soon!
Oh cool, looks that you already update your game ;)
Subbed! What is the story going to be about in this game?
Wow, so this was just recently added here. I had an older version of this (probably found on Dragon's Den), and just played about 3 or 4 hours into this. Good to see this is still going on. Has there been any new content to warrant another playthrough, or to start over with this version?
I've been playing through and I must say I'm really liking it so far. Being that DW1 on NES was my first RPG this is a nice nostalgia trip. Awesome work.
Agreed, it's nice seeing a DQ quality game in the same style as the very first NES version that's not a boring remake of one I've played countless times. My only gripes, so far, have been the save style and the skills.

While the save style is reminiscent of the first game, it's one that even Enix changed up for its sequels. I think having a priest in the other villages to serve as a save would help out a lot. As for skills, the Hurt spell helps early on, but not so much in late levels. Getting an upgrade to that skill at around level 10 or so would definitely help.

Beyond those two things, though, I really enjoyed the demo. Looking forward to the completed version.
COMPLETED?! Awesome. Can't wait until there is a download up!

You know, we've spent a lot of years to improve games and graphic not just to return in 1989!
Just why?
It's not so much that game technology has improved; the resources available to commercial developers have improved. Games like this are simply representative of the most a single person can make within a reasonable time frame.

One year seems to be the de facto standard for development time in the commercial games industry these days. It's impossible for a single person to produce a game even like those made in the early nineties within the time span of a single year.
When I play, every tile in the game is a glitched water tile.
What could cause this problem?
Hawkeye's updated the game to v1.1.

This version prevents monsters from spamming the Sleep spell--putting you back to sleep right after you've woken up:

I thought I had posted this but am I right that in the entire game only the king can save your game? I have traveled to different cities and in some want to quit after reachng them but because there seem to be no other places to save, rather than being able to quit and return to the same place and grind....I need to fight back to the castle....wings are very expensive.

Thanks
Yeah. Just like the original Dragon Warrior, the only place to save is the castle.
