Description

Super Mario Bros. X (SMBX) is a homebrew Mario Bros. engine project that blends elements from Super Mario 1, 2, 3 and World, with SMB3 physics. It contains an extensive point-and-click level editor that allows for the creation classic Super Mario Bros. styled levels. It is possible to create episodes using either the SMB3 or SMW styled world map, or using a Mario 64 style hub level that has the players collect stars to advance. The game is playable with a friend in the 2 player co-op mode, where the screen seamlessly splits and combines as the players separate and rejoin. Custom graphics and custom music can be imported into levels.

There are classic power-ups such as the Fire Flower, Tanooki Suit, Yoshi, and Kuribo's Shoe, but also new power-ups like the Ice Flower, The Billy Gun, and the Propeller Block. Besides Mario and Luigi, there are also Toad, Princess Peach and Link as playable characters.

Levels and episodes made in SMBX require the engine to play. Currently, there is no stane-alone option for distribution. SMBX is coded in Visual Basic.

A download link for the original SMBX version 1.3 is provided here, while the official website contains links to various newer forked versions developed by the community.

2020 Update:
Since February 2, 2020, the source code of SMBX is
now open under MIT license (license file in a repository):

Stop spamming and no.

The virus scanner complaints are legitimate, BTW. This version of the installer is packaged with an obnoxious adware product called OpenCandy. Can we get a better installer here?

Well, that explains OpenCandy. For now don't download any that require an installer as SMBX doesn't need one. I can zip up my own copy and make that available for a while too.
What happen to the website? it just sends you to Nintendo's site now....
It is possible in SMBX to making Turn Block Bridges?
It is impossible in SMBX to making cutscenes with Events and Layers?
Yes, it is possible in SMBX to making SMW Turn Block Bridges using Events and Layers!
if you post about this one more time I am going to ban you, your IP and your mother's IP.

Quit posting random questions on any SMBX related article or tutorial. If the question is directly related to the tutorial, fine. If not, make a new post in Help & Requests.
he's answering his own questions with alt accounts made up of the same words! that's so incredibly dumb xD
SMBX appears an error box (Run-time error '9': Subscript out of range) when making SMB3 Minigames. Only SMA4 e-minigames can be made in SMBX, because it is possible. Currently, SMB3 Minigames are impossible to making in SMBX using Events and Layers. Are SMB3 Minigames possible in SMBX? See the video below:

The 524 is for 524 Stone Crabs

What happened to the game vault? It displays none of the games made with SMBX.
I tried to make SMB3 minigames in SMBX, but the game appears an error box (Run-time error '9': Subscript out of range) when testing. If i make it without help, the game will crash. If i fail all attempts to make SMB3 minigames in SMBX, i should better to make other type of level! If SMB3 minigames are possible in SMBX, i want a download link!

SMBX appears an error message (Run-time error '11': Division by zero) when editing the level file with text to test the SMB3 Roulette minigame in SMBX. If this error persists, it should be better ask DiamondPhoenix to post a download link showing a SMB3 Roulette minigame in SMBX! The video is here.

I have used up all failed attempts to make a SMB3 Spade Panel Level in SMBX. Please register on YouTube to ask DiamondPhoenix to put a download link and a tutorial. Don't forget that this minigame is impossible in SMBX. Are SMB3 Spade Panel Levels impossible in SMBX? Click here!
This engine is pretty intuitive and not terribly difficult to use. But it is by nature very limited in what it can do. I think everything that can be done already has been. Except more respriting. I actually haven't seen a SMBX game that uses zero default graphics.
what about makeing it like the game mario and luigi superstar saga. what i meen by is when you hit an enmey it takes you to anouther area when you hit the enmey
For those of you not in the know.
They got a new web site recently.

I knew it would happen eventually.

You could make a Zelda 2 like game, I suppose. But yeah, you can't change the underlying physics or core gameplay.

hey i recently found a new version of smbx 1.3.0.1 only thing i don't really trust downloading because of the malware thing is there any way that you could do the same to it like you did with the previous version? check it out here
