MAKERSCORE

An explanation of what it is and how it is accumulated

Makerscore is a quantitative representation of your contributions to the site. Certain contributions net you a certain amount of makerscore, for example, a tutorial will get you
30, while a completed 5-star game will get you
750! You can find your total makerscore under your name in both your user profile and under your avatar in posts on the site. You can see a summary of makerscore earned by clicking on Submissions in the toolbar above.

As you garner more makerscore, the space in your personal locker grows (at roughly the rate of 40kb per point of makerscore).

Makerscore is recalculated in an overnight batch job (so when you don't see immediate changes in your makerscore, go to bed! Everything will be better in the morning).

THAT'S what I was looking for.

Edit (2 Months Later): man like, don't give people MS for getting Featured Game. Getting Featured Game is plenty of its own reward.

Oh, OK! Cool.

I didn't know :)

May I suggest adding that info to this page? It's not a big deal, but may prevent questions like mine :P

Done.

I have a question, shouldn't users defined as "tester" or "other" in gamepages, get some makerscore? Like 1 or 5?

It makes sense I think :)

That's why they do! They get 25% of the total makerscore value of the gamepage.

They do, actually. I'm not sure about the exact amount, but testers and "others" definitely receive a percentage of the makerscore a game page generates.

Edit: Welp. What kentona says.

me with my 50 maker score...I'M MOVING UP IN THE WORLD MUM!
So it's kind of like storage space that I can link to from other sites around the web?
I know, I know...dense. But hey, it won't last for long! 'Cause I'm learnin'!

and, uh, also the difference that the Locker probably won't disappear when the owner invariably stops paying for the server space or some fun-hater loads the upload page with malware

Heh, although at one time RMN was in danger of being shut down! I think lack of funds was an issue at some point as well.

I wonder if getting banned from RMN affects lockerspace?
it reminds me a lot of the old bitbuckets I used to drop music in, with the obvious difference that it's all collected in one place so I don't have to remember URLs.

The locker's for file storage. Kinda like dropbox. You can upload anything you want in there, so long as it fits.
Not exactly like dropbox since there is no syncing/backing up. It's just basic online storage. It's more like having your own web storage space/domain/ftp server. If you must compare it to another service, mediafire.

Ok, I understand I am slow, but...
what is the locker for? Any files I want? or...whats the deal?

I think you get Makerscore when you are named as a Tester, but I don't see that accounted for here. It would probably encourage people to offer to test games if they knew there was some MS bonus to it.

I've never been named as an Other, but would that earn someone Makerscore as well? If so, that should probably get mentioned here as well.
It applies when you mark the game completed.
So if you started as a demo, you get 10ms. But if you mark it completed, you get 50% bonus ms, for a total of 15ms.
Does the "complete game bonus" apply when you mark a demo as newly completed, or does it only work if you submit a finished game from the start?

I think he means Makerscore per downloadable version offered by the creator, not every time the game is downloaded... the latter would spiral out of control very quickly.

Ah, yes that makes more sense, thanks slashphoenix, it would create some huge MakerScore for some with the other way.

Wow, if you do that Pom's creator is going to overtake your MS overnight, even with Hero's Realm in your corner! I think the idea of acknowledging a game that is successful and popular is a good one, but I'm not sure a direct download=MS is the best way, especially as the system can be scammed (though I'm not sure who'd want to do so). I only know this because there have been a couple of times that I've started to download an older game for review, only to realise I've chose the RTP rather than the non version, stopped the download well before completion and picked the right one, but both downloads show up in the game count.

Perhaps a MS boost when certain milestones are reached, first, five hundred, ten thousand etc. Maybe with an achievement badge to go with it as a bonus.
