Balmung Cycle Part I: The Messenger and the Heretic

Description

Recently Balmung passed the 1000th download mark. That's admittedly more than I imagined it would receive, thanks to all the players for giving it a chance!

An outcast god consumed by despair threatens to bring the world of Midgard to its knees. Aided by a ragtag group of volunteer soldiers-of-fortune and a small loyal following, he aims to establish his kingdom once more. When reason and diplomacy with the outcast deity fail, the Aesir god Loki prepares to make a final bid to halt the ambitions of the heretic. What will become of the world should he be unable to succeed?

You are Blitz Ymir, a disconnected servant to the Aesir. The god Loki has offered you a limited freedom if only you were to complete a simple task in his name. When past obligations become personal choice, will you choose to live a menial life or continue to take up the sword in the name of the gods?

Key Features:
-Modified DBS, third place winner of the GW 2005 code-off battle system division
-Single consistent graphical style that always feels like you are playing the same game
-An original score not composed of commercial game music
-Standard RPG fare gameplay: Mini games, dungeons, puzzles, and more
-Utilizes weapon attributes to expand battle strategies (More info in the blog entry for 4-19-08).

The average length of the game is 6-8 hours long.

Development status: Completed, the 2.0 Patch is still coming! Someday... Read the blog for recent entries concerning it.

For some reason the music didn't work for me and also i cant get past the minigame with aldrick because of serious lag in game even though i have a pretty good computer. But otherwise i really like this game and will continue to try to beat the minigame although it seems impossible for me.

The gameplay in this is very good except that annoying minigame in the guild and the RIDICULOUSLY ANNOYINGLY BAD scenes surrounding it. Like, seriously, up until the end of the first dungeon with the Vanir thing the game was PERFECT IN EVERY WAY.

It's still fun to play (I just got the Surlent sprite-based character, if you want a bookmarked reference) but MAN the story sometimes goes HEY I WANT TO BE DUMB for a bit. Overall it's a pretty awesome experience, though. Karsuman and I plan on reviewing it after completing the game.

I might have older demo of this because i thought this was abandoned.
Now i must download new one.
Anyway, good work!

I've actually refrained from starting part 2 until mid-July. The reason for this is to make corrections to the game formula and gauge what worked and what did not according to the community. Once I have a general idea of this, I'm planning to begin writing for part 2. I can't give a definitive date of when it will be completed, but I'm hoping that the length will be twice that of part 1.

Though for a time I had actually planned on creating this game in three distinct parts, I now believe part 2 will be the conclusion to the game.

Great game finally beat it.Final boss only took me 3-4 tries to figure out how to beat him.Only 1 area i was unable to get Odin's triump for and it was the woods area errr before the manor.Story was excellent. Is part 2 anywhere near completion within say the next 6-12 months?

Hahah, Otomon. Oh you.

Somebody from the GW forums provided an insight into the puzzle for pillar puzzle for people who were having a hard time grasping it:

There are only supposed to be three pillars, the player must stand on the final switch. The third pillar to place is the top right switch, and after placing it you stand on the lower left. I hope this helps!

Hm... played a little while so far good game tho i can't seem to figure out the hint for the pillar puzzle in Yggdrasil Spring.

I'm really looking forward to this. Not only because of it's amazing visuals, but because I'm really interested in Norse mythology. I was actually thinking of making a viking game based around it. If I can come up with a decent story I'll probably try and do some work on it.

It's actually a coincidence Malad. I have a fascination with mythology in general, however for this game I decided to have Norse influences as it is or at least was the popular thing to do when I began this project!

Does this by any chance have anything to do with Wagnerian opera or is that a coincidence?
